Default Went for a ride in a procharged vehicle today...

So today I popped my procharger cherry today when I went for a ride in a 2000 trans am.

The car had a built for boost stock cube motor with a 12psi pulley installed. I was very dissapointed to say the least. The car made 12psi at 6200 then it shifted at 6500 which was only about a span of 1 second. The boost dropped back down to 4psi then slowly it crept back to 12psi but then it immeditally shifted again . Is this what all prochargers feel like? The car felt like it had a intake, exhaust and a little bit of tuning but nothing like you would expect from a FI car.

At 12psi on a stock cube motor it should feel pretty stout. Dropping to 4psi and slowly creeping sounds weird, if it stayed at 4psi I'd say its slipping, but if it went back up then I dunno, that's weird. My car feels pretty nasty on the street.

a 347 on 12 psi of boost would be around 600whp mark and i do not really consider that weak. if you are used to driving 1000+ hp cars then yea it is not going to feel too fast.

I agree, something doesn't sound right with this combination, maybe the car has 2.73 gears. Bob

Something is wrong for sure. When I went WOT on my SS with only 10 PSI it was warp speed time. You should have been smiling the whole way if things were dialed in.

Definitely something wrong.

I don't have that kind of power (stock bottom end with about 8 lbs) and everybody I have gave a ride to was quite impressed. It didn't matter if it was a 2nd through 4th pass or just blowing the tires away 1st, 2nd and shifting into third.

Maybe it has silly low compression and a not so optimum cam? My stock bottom end on 7psi Vortech doesn't feel anything like you describe.

What does it run at the track? I've seen FI ls1s go 12s and slower at the track and that is not going to feel that impressive. If the car was set-up correctly with 12psi is should be in the 10s, and that feels very impressive, almost scary on the street. My D1 made 14psi on the stock block and went 10.1 in the 1/4. People were scared when I gave them test drives, one girl almost pee'd her pants and made me pull over lol. Big difference in how individual FI cars perform. If it had 12 psi and felt like a intake & exhaust car, it's not set-up right lol.

i think what made it feel slow was how the boost dropped so much when it shifted. I have another friend with a aps camaro and when it shifts it goes straight back to max boost instantly.

Do the magnachargers have a linear boost curve like the procharger? I know there are some fast procharged cars out there but I just can't see how they would compare to a properly set up turbo system.

My car was a high stalled a4 so there was no noticable drop. It stayed in the high rpms 1st through 3rd, I couldn't even feel when it shifted gears. I'm not sure how the 6 speed guys get around the rpm drops inbetween shifts.

Doesn't sound right at all. My GTSLOW has no problem going to warp speed. I break traction at 80 no problem and burn the wheels off anytime I hit the go pedal. Are you sure the car wasn't spinning so bad it felt slow? It will be another ride with some DR's on it.

Sounds like a combo issue or overall problem with the car. I have a stock cube, stock internals, SC ground cam for boost, at 12psi.... 651rwhp. Like someone mentioned.. when I hit the pedal its freakin warp speed.

I must have that V.

This might be a stupid question, but did the owner have it tuned and do all the necessary supporting mods (fuel, etc)?

def. something wrong, even a h/c car feels very strong, a sc car will scare anyone not used to acceleration even with low psi

Is the car tuned? My Procharged car at 12psi made my 440rwhp H/C car feel like a Honda Civic.
