Default 8.3L Whipple on a C5R, 427

This is something new I'm putting together and I thought I'd share. I'll post some pics as soon as I figure out how to shrink and post them... It keeps kicking them out. (Too large)

I've been waiting the 8.3L drive and manifold for a long, long time but Whipple finally shipped it. It's nowhere near finished/complete but, I have a good start. I'll be using two 2000 CFM dominator T/B's up top to feed it, and drive it with a 16rib belt. I've had pretty good luck with the 3.3L blowers so I have high hopes for this thing. I'll post some progress pics as it comes along. This is the first of its kind so be patient... Lots of mock-up to do and parts to make.

Stay tuned.

What's the point, unless you want the Pro Street, high blower look? No possible need for a blower that big on a 427. I could see the 5.0 at a stretch, but the 8.3? Maybe if you had a 572 big block or something.

It's not going in a car... It's going in a Sand Rail. And I've already ran the smaller Whipple blowers and they max out @ around 1000 HP on a 427... This one will go 1500+ no problem and I won't have to turn it near a hard... That's pretty much the point. As for "no possible need for a blower that big on a 427." What do you say about all the folks running 106mm Turbos and F3 Prochargers on even smaller engines? "No possible need."

It'll be an intresting buildthats for sure! as Delta said, would the next logical step be to try the 5.0 ltr unit first??.......

Keep us posted anyway!

Sounds pretty crazy, but most sand rails typically are. Go big or go home!

Should be badass on a rail. That will make a sand storm behind you.

As for the size of the blower, the 8.3 seems to perform the same as the 5.0. It just spins at a lower RPM. Based on the advertised numbers from Whipple, I think it'll work.

I would be VERY interested in seeing dyno numbers and a build thread! Please keep up updated! This sounds like a very cool project! I have been wanting to see what the larger displacement whipples will do on the LSX blocks.

if displacement of supercharger > then displacement of engine = way too much fun to be had.

This sounds like it should be rather insane. I look forward to seeing this come together.

Is that equivalent to say an 8-71? Looks like it. That will be insane in a sand rail.

Yep... C5R block converted to 1/2" head studs. If it starts spitting head gaskets, I'll switch everything over to a 6 bolt ERL block. But I've had pretty good luck with 4 bolt blocks with 1/2" head studs so far...
