When you call ARP & depending on who you talk to, they will tell you 90-110 ft.lbs. However their ARP 2000 kit for the LSX block says 105 and is of a lower tensil strength material. On all the L19 I have used I usually go to 100ft. lbs. What we have seen is that the threads in the nut are not capable of suporting the loads that are created by the increased torque. To increase the torque value when using L19 & 2000 material studs LME sources nuts from ARP that have more material supporting the threads to help eliminate the deformation of the threads in the nut. So to answer you question. I would go to 100 ft. lbs. and you will be in good shape. If you want to get the stronger nuts you need ARP#APN12-2 This will help you out.

You can bump up the torque to 120. This is the max I would go. You are then starting to ask alot from the threads in the block.

I was told to only go 90-95lbs if using an aluminum block when I called last year and ordered the studs.

So I was talking to a local engine builder today that told me that about a year ago ARP updated all of their torque specs for their head studs. For example, with the standard ARP LS1 head studs the old torque specs where 70lbs, and with the revised torque specs its 80lbs. I am suprised I didn't hear about this here.

well i got ahold of Justin at ARP he said start with 90. if heads lift go to 95. if that dont work buy upgrade nut and go to 110. and if that dont work. might need 1/2 studd.

that would suck

fwiw,we have std ARP studs on Fireball's engine,i torqued them to 95ft lbs,If the heads are lifting it's not the fastener's fault.I do not use the L19 head studs because i do not see a purpose for them, but if it were me i would tq them to a minimum of 105ft lbs, fastener won't do any good it it isn't stretched properly

ok i bought my cam from you and talked to you in the past so i respect for opinion.
But
you say 105

and ARP(they made them) say 90-95

why? i have not fired motor yet. so idk if heads will lift. also i dont want the threads to give out in the block. if you really think 105 is the best i can easily torque them down. but you tell me. your the better engine man.

Is it safe to go 105lbs on an aluminum block?

I torqued mine to 100 ft-lbs and have had no problems at all at 18.5 lbs of boost with the Fel-pro 5 layer MLS head gaskets.
