Led on scavange pump question
For the Led to indicate the oil pump has power.
I should probably put in some sort of resistor so the led doesn't get the full amperage. I'm using a 30 amp relay for the oil pump and a 20mV led.
What size resistor should I use?
Does the led need a fuse as well?

A 30 amp relay doesnt mean anything for the LED. That's simply what the relay ITSELF is rated to, not how much current is in the circuit. And a 20mV LED is rediculously small, you sure you dont mean 20mA LED?The problem with what youre wanting to do is when you stick a resistor inline with the LED youre limiting the current in the circuit. So you would be limiting the current going to the pump. You could put an LED on the 12V input side of the relay.....but that will only tell you when youre giving power to the relay. A good relay shouldnt go bad for a long time so technically you could do it that way. In that case you should go with something like a 500 ohm resistor which gives you 24mA of current into the relay (12/500=.024). Then google a 12V LED that can handle 24mA's of current. Then just check the relay's input current rating. If it requires more current to trip then youll have to size the resistor appropriately as well as the LED specs.
