Default cam/converter/gear questions

Wondering how, or if there is a big differance between a procharger set-up comparted to a turbo set-up? My cam is a blower cam--224/230 in.567 ex.578 on a 114 LSA. Currently my converter is a Vig. 3800 stall with a 4.11 gear which was for my car runnin on my old set-up. Whats everyone using for a converter/gear combo?

Cam will be fine.

CENTRIFUGAL blower and turbo converters are different.

I run an ATI 8" 5000 converter/TH400 and 3.70 gear with 28" tires.

Unless you plan on running very low boost or a very tall tire I would ditch the 4.11.

well its basically a stock 6.0 with a blower cam and supporting valvetrain and studded mains, heads and rod bolts. Im gonna guess about 10lbs or so. And i have a th350 with a 28" tire.

You will run out of gear most likely, you should easily go 135+mph in the 1/4 at 10psi in your car and a 4.11 will be a lot. FWIW my old TA had a stock rodded 347 with stock heads, '01 LS6 cam, mac headers, weighed 3400lbs and ran 9.70s @ 137 with 14psi. Same converter and gear I ran all the way to 8.90/153..

But if its in there may as well try it..

Now a procharger doesn't need the engine load like a turbo does to run good does it? So like a 3.23 gear wouldn't be necessary would it? Just gear it like i would a motor car to where im running through the traps at my rpm i want?

Yea, a procharged small block is sorta like a N/A large cube big block power curve-wise. Load doesnt mean anything, matter of fact my converter is a regular 8" BBC converter with a couple tweaks for better top end efficiency.

Figure your MPH (dont forget converter slip, 7% or so) and thats about it. The taller the gear will affect converter stall some of course.

[QUOTE=CobaltSS;12112830][quote]Wondering how, or if there is a big differance between a procharger set-up comparted to a turbo set-up? to be fair yes i said that but not really wondering about turbo set-ups, more concerned about what ill need, not what a turbo car needs.

Usually turbo converters tend to be a lot tighter, same with a torque converter made for a positive displacement blower. Turbo car will make its torque peak earlier then a centrifugal. Displacement/stroke also makes a difference as well, if you had a 300 cid short stroke, large cammed engine with a large turbo or a 598 inch BBC with a procharger it could be just the opposite.

Always best to talk to a well known converter company if decent ETs are your goal..

Yeah with the 4.11 you will run out of gear before you run out of tire.
