Default waterpump heater hoses

Because of the turbo kit im not running heat or AC so can I just block these ports off or do i need to run a loop between the two. I did a search and read many debates with no definitive answer. I would like to tap the one to half inch and run a mechanical temp gauge there if it would not pose any problems. any help appreciated.

Great thats what i was hoping. Does anyone know if this location would work for a mechanical water temp gauge?
