Exclamation ported 241's or stock 317's??? HELP!!

Ok, so just bought a 98 z28 with and sts setup. had the car for 24 hours and it broke. I'm getting ready to tear it down this weekend but already definitely know head gasket is blown cuz the oil is green as hell. but I'm looking at a different head setup that will be safer with no more than 8 lbs of boost. I just dont want to ever worry about this problem again.

so I was looking at 317 series heads and found a good deal, but didnt know if I would have to do anything to them or if they would work with stock springs, rockers, etc. I have a guy that will do head work for pretty cheap.

My main goal is to lower the compression just to make the car safer to run on 8lbs or less. so should I port out the stock 241 heads for lower compression or just go with the stock 317's for around a 9:5 compression? input please!!!

Man that sucks, well from my knowledge, if you want to drop your compression go with 317's...Good Luck

I am using 317 Heads with GM MLS 6L head gaskets, and with ARP headstuds.. has worked PERFECTLY at 10psi. I was using hardened pushrods and z06 springs. Depending on what happens with my tune next week we may be running 12psi.. but I doubt it, I want to stay around 600hp/tq.

I'd say upgrade to headstuds, and add pushrods to be safe.

Nice sounds good to me...where did you get your gasket and studs from? what about valves did you use the stock 317 valves?

Go with the 317s, use ARP bolts or preferably studs, you should upgrade valve springs with any type of FI- the added boost will more than likely induce valve float otherwise. and if running heaver springs its always advisable to run uprated pushrods.
