Default Which Aftermarket Engine Management System?

We are in the process of putting together a max effort twin TC78 build. Josh @ KYTP is currently in the process of fabricating the kit.

It will be on an LSX 422 w/ TFS 245 6 bolt heads (if TFS makes good on the problem that we are having with them). The car is currently running 8.70's on about a 400 shot of nitrous with the stock ECM.

We are wanting to atleast start out with the stock coils for the ignition.

Please vote on one of the above engine management systems and provide some real world feedback regarding pros and cons. Not to seem like an ******* but please dont vote unless you have some hands on experienceon the LSx platform.

I wont vote but I know you might want to give Fireball a pm and talk with him or Phill99vette since they have the most real world experience.

I've read about some of the stuff that Fireball has had to deal with and it has me hesitant about the BS3 option. Maybe he'll weigh in with a "If I had to do it over again" type response.

It appears my problem wasn't BS3 related.

I wouldn't hesitate a bit about going with BS3................if anything Fireball or Phill99vette could give you some helpful tips for using BS3 on a ls build.

We have had a few LS cars come through the shop with BS3 and all of them work very well.

I would say BS3 with a Dist. at this point. We are going to try the MSD hall effect cam sensor and external 24x wheel from BS3 really soon. Till then we are in the air on running the stock coils.

You will definetly get an opportunity to quote on this. We have ruled out the use of a used unit. He doesn't want to risk chassing any unnecesary gremlins.

So, it sounds like the BS3 is the way to go.

Any pointers on what sort of issues to look out for when setting it up?

He already has all aftermarket gages so that is covered.

FAST XFI is a great way to go. Easy to work on, easy people to deal with. Talk with Maxwell, he's real knowledgeable and extremely helpful. It took a lot of time and helped me out with an good matching ignition system and which part #'s to order. Unless you need twin injectors the XFI should be to handle all of your needs. It will even toggle the nitrous on and off to spool the convertor if needed.

I have played with the FAST setup on a buddies turbo buick. I liked it alot. I did read somewhere that it would not directly communicate with the stock coils and would require some sort of converter box to use them. This supposedly causes some sort of communication delay that can cause ignition issues. Have you heard or seen this issue? Has it been worked out?
