Default Intake behind radiator or ??

Are all you guys running the air filter behind the radiator on your turbo. Im thinking about running pipe straight out to the area behind the bumper right about where the horn is. Is that too long?

Well I dunno about the other guys, but I'm going to run a filter right off the turbo with a section of pipe just long enough that I can tap vacuum from.

It is well worth it to get the filter placed so that it is picking up the coolest air possible. I wrote up an example of the temp differences here:

So based on what I read its not going to hurt to have some piping as long as its cooler air its going to be beneficial

Yeah but where the hell are we gonna pipe the filter to? There's freaking piping and hoses and wiring everywhere! lol

I was thinking about fabbing a heat sheild/splash shield out of sheet metal, kind of a half circle deal that would block direct heat from the rad as well as and water/crap from below.

That is some enlightening info though, Jim.

Well my turbo is low enough and the intake faces the passenger side, im thinking about cutting a hole in the that inner bumper plastic below the frame and putting the filter in there. The vent on my bumper will supply it with plenty of air. Atleast thats what im thinking.

That will work fine, that is how my vortech is, except on the driver side.

Which way are you running your IC piping? Sounds like an ideal place for it, but that's exactly where I'm running the charge pipe from the turbo to the IC.

Im running my cold piping as following: Turbo(clocked down) is on driver side with intake facing passenger side. So I have the piping going through the air dam to a 90 elbow on the IC, then the other side is coming out right around where the fuse boxes are. I did some preliminary testing tonight, I dont have the right setup of piping to pull this off quite the way I want mainly due to the horns and an a/c line being in the way. Im thinking now of running a 90 off the intake side and go straight up to where the ram air would be pulling air in.

I was planning on running my filter right off the turbo, which is behind the radiator. Maybe I'll try to route it in the bumper too. But where do you get 4 inch tubing at?

Does anyone think using a 3" pipe to a 4" intake on the turbo would cause issue? Using a reducer of course lol

i dunno but clearance is the reason i havent done it...4" pipe. Driving down the freeway my IATS stay about 2-4 degrees over ambient so I figure it isnt hurting it to much sucking air behind the radiator
