Default EGT Questions

I have no experience working with EGTs. I am told that the sensor should be located in the down pipe. If so, how far from the turbo? Also, what temp range is considered safe? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. We are in the process of putting together my friend's Firebird with twin TC78's. I'll be starting the build thread tomorrow.

Thanks!

yeah, the egt's should be about 1'' from the cylinder head, the end of the probe should be in the center of the header tube.as far as temps-that's going to depend on the fuel you are using-every fuel has a different cooling property and will be happy at different temps

That's what I thought. My understanding has always been that it is more a tool to tell you if a cylinder is running different than the rest (in a real world environment). More like a way to flag a problem or to make sure you are getting everything out of every cylinder. To stick one in the DP doesn't make any sense to me.
