Default Coupling intercooler piping question, V-band

For those you who use V-band clamps, do you experience any boost leaks?

I found some pictures of some high boost cars using V-band clamps to hold the piping together. I'm assuming these are the same clamps as used in exhaust apps. right? If so do you silicone them or use a gasket or not or what?

Wolfe makes some with o-rings. I am sure there are others who do as well.

I used aluminum for my IC piping to save weight. I got v-band sets with male/female sides and o-rings from racepartsolutions. No leaks.

Try anywhere that sells plumbin fittings. Or SS fittings. Not like ace hardware, but like a big supply shop. Idk how the O-ring don't melt under this extreme of temps.

orings are only used on the charge (cold side) piping.

the v-band is a positive lock...it will NOT come apart.

I've seen some use vband on the crossover. Do they use a SS or Coper o-ring?

I used nothing. Some use copper RTV. they expand when they get hot and seal pretty tight.

We just welded an aluminum v-band flange to it...

we also had vbands at the turbo outlet and the intercooler inlet and outlet ports.

I don't have any great pictures of the throttle body flange...

I would suggest always using O-rings on the aluminum coldside V-bands. Not always necessary, but they are cheap and will help seal even a warped flange.

Copper RTV on the hotside intead of O-rings.
