Default 01 Sierra Turbo build.

This is my first turbo build so go easy on me. I've been working on my truck for some time now and hope to have it running soon. The motor is an HKE 408 with 8.5cr and the heads are ported 317's. I have an s480 turbo and synapse50mm waste gate and blow off valve. Still need to get an intake, not sure on what to get.

my turbo headers.. Hahah an old set of long tubes I had.

Very nice. I was just talking to my friend last night about throwing an s480 in his 408 Silverado.

The waste gate isn't on there yet, not sure if I want to mount it on top or bottom yet.

Very slick, I like the k-member pass-through and the turbo brace.

Any suggestions would be great, still learning as I go. Not sure how I want to run the oil to the turbo or where to tap the oil pan. Anybody have any input on this?

Looks good.

Would be a little worried about cracking with turbo mounted
to frame and engine twisting under torque. .... probably not, but just a thought .............

I also would not run that big of a cold air pipe to the TB.
You will lose a lot of intake charge velocity, which is just as important as total flow.

I made the flange out of 1/2 steel and the brace itself is made from 1/4.

I'll keep that in mind. I do have a set of 3" tubbing. I'll keep it like that for now and change it if needed. I think with the solid motor mounts I'll be ok. Thanks!!

X2, I would only go with a Vic Jr other than the LS6 if I were you. I opted out of my LS1 to a Vic Jr, but I had money when I bought it. plus the $230 elbow was a hit in the pocket too

I run a 4" and i see no issues with using a pipe of this size. I do see how ever nice cool IATs. there are quite a few builds with 3.5 and 4" tubing to the TB all producing large numbers

i see you have the fast intake on there, go ahead and use it since you already own it. Make sure you take it apart and seal it with silicone. The fast will net you a few extra ponies.

Good to hear. I'm going to keep my 4" pipe then. The fast I have on there will not work. I sold it to a member here a few months back and it got damaged during shipping. Sure am glad I purchased insurance on it. UPS sent a check to the buyer and sent this back to me. Its got a light crack on the bottom and small chips around the intake ports. I guess I'll get a vic jr and make an elbow for it.

fix the intake and use it. most fast's crack on the bottome from ppl installing them without the proper hardware. You can easily fix the floor with epoxy. I used 3M panel bond to seal mine.

my setup in my silverado used a 4" pipe from IC to TB, now on my camaro the same pipe is being used.

compressing air creates heat, enlarging the size of pipe helps cool the charge some by slowing it down since its has to take up more room. It will still make it to the motor with minimal difference in spool and still have the same volume of air. if we had ineffiecent motors then sizing of cold size pipes would play more of a factor but in the LS world alot of typical fundenmetals are throw out.
