Default What kind of timing are you guys running on your F/I setups???

I'm currently at 14deg of timing on my forged 347/F1C setup (18# of boost). Just looking to see where the rest of you guys are at timing wise on your tune.

Thanks,

I am at 20° on pump gas only right now (I have alkycontrol kit, but not using it right now because it is already running pig rich on 91 octane alone). Forged 9.2:1 370/ F1 at about 12-13psi.. ~700rwhp and still working out the bugs.

18* at 9 PSI on my Vortech car.

17* at 10 PSI on my Procharged car.

Those are on 93 pump gas tunes.

I'm at "baby boost" levels compared to many other members.

15 @ 15.5psi, 8.8:1 COMP on pump gas. Just make sure you have your tune setup to pull a bunch of timing if your iats go past about 145ish. I blew a forged motor that way. 180 iats on pump gas is not your pistons friend.

17 deg, 10#'s of boost, 91 octane, 9.4:1 compression. I'm droping from a 3.7" pully to a 3.4" (14-15 #'s) and adding meth this winter, I'll probly leave the timing at 17-18 deg and have the safety of the meth.

Sounds like I'm leaving some power on the table by keeping my timing so low. Keep the info coming guys!

Thanks,

i think i was around 12 lbs boost, IAT's a little over 100 degs, 93 octane with a splash of 110, 22 degs put the timing mark right at the curve on the plug,
i think the AFR's were around high 11's, low 12's, but i run a carb, so prob a little better cooling in the engine-i start at 30 degs, ramp up a little higher in cruise mod, then drop timing as the boost goes up-i think my comp is around
9.2

When you guys toss these timing figures out there, are you talking about peak timing? Or more importantly, peak VE/TQ timing which is what I'd be more interested in knowing..

Timing at peak I would guess.

Timing from another setup across the country doesnt mean much. Take it with a grain of salt for sure CRs, Boost, Fuel type, etc all play a big role.

Update to my input.

Just turned the timing down to 15.5* on the Procharged car during a dyno session this morning. 10 psi on a stock longblock. Making absolutely sure we stay out of detonation. 542 RWHP/488 RWTQ SAE. OUT OF INJECTOR from 5300 on up. 42#'s are coming out, starting to shop for some 60#'s.

Also looked at the tune on the Vortech car. We had turned it down to 16*.

Yeah, I think the OP knows that he has to carefully tune his own car and that what we run on our cars is just interesting reading rather than accurate guidance for his setup - which can be greatly different from other posters in this thread.

why do you guys run one value for timing at WOT; these aren't SBC's with locked distributors?

My values I quoted are at peak RPM/Boost. The lower the rpms and boost the more timing I have.

11#s 15.5 degrees on 93 seems pretty conservative then?

12* of timing, 15lbs, 9.7:1. 91pump and 50/50 meth, 364c.i., afr's 11.0-11.7. I feel like I have alot of power left of the table via timing as well. I like "safe" though

In theory, your timing should be lowest at peak torque and ramp up towards redline. I run torque timing all the way across because I'm not trying to set any records and not class racing.

a good reference for anything over 20lbs without an air to water cooler even with race gas is 16* total timing

unless you datalog everything and you know what your engine is exactly doing and what your IAT are as stated above you don't want to push it

it also makes a huge difference in you combustion chamber design as to your cylinder temps

but at 16 * the odds of rattling it are very very low if your running good gas

pump gas 15 #s of boost and 16* total timing is pretty safe as long as your IAT's are decent

Quick Reply: What kind of timing are you guys running on your F/I setups???
