Debating... gather parts have built locally... or buy shortblock from sponsor?
Ive been researching options lately and Im wondering whether I want to gather parts to have a local shop build a motor for me or buy a built motor from a sponsor. This will be for a boosted motor for my SS.... not sure if Ill go alum or iron... Im not opposed to either.
Luckily I have a few local shops that are very reputable as well as a very good tuner.... but the thought of purchasing outright ready to go sounds really nice and convenient.
What route did you take and were you happy with your choice?
Im also interested to hear from sponsors to hear why they think I should purchase a built shortblock from them vs build locally.
Thanks in advance....

my reply is this-buy from people who have alot of experience building the type of engine you want-there are alot of small things that go along way in these things. The other is use a machine shop with the latest equipment.we're working on 21st century engines, there is no reason to be using outdated 20th century equipment. Also use a performance machine shop, not just a production shop-you will pay a little more, but that little will go along way in the terms of power and reliability.
if you have somebody local that fits that description-go with them.If not i suggest you go with a sponsor with a good reputation building high quility engine. There are a couple on here you can't go wrong with.

Thanks guys... keep the suggestions coming.....
Daves Engine is on my top 3 for if I have it built locally... I wouldnt hesitate to have them build my engine. Plus my tuner is right next door.

+1 on this suggestion. I've built a bunch of older small, and big block engines over the years, but these newer GenIII-IV engines are a whole new ballgame. Best to leave it to someone who knows all the little tricks one these particular motors.
