Default Turbo Upgrade - Selection Questions

Currently have my setup (STS kit) 60mm Garrett journal bearing turbo with a max flow of 63.4LB/min (roughly) and I'm going to have to get back to you on the A/R ratio...

Now adding ls6 heads, going to run 8-12psi (8.252 spring & 11.7 spring); already performing fuel upgrade.

Guessing at my power level I will need somewhere between 72~80 LB/min (600-640HP) of airflow and I will be at a pressure ratio of 2.05~2.2.

Looking for recommendations on Garrett journal bearing turbos, I know I can swap out the exhaust housing & such on mine to swap it to a 67mm.... wondering if it is necessary to go to a 67 or 70mm??

Last time I was riding around and floored it, I logged in efi live, 63.4LB/min & I had fuel pressure issues, out flowing my single 255 pump; which I will have solved shortly. When I exceed 63LB/min of airflow from the turbo ...am I going to cause harm?

If im not mistaken, since your turbos max output is 63.4, you cannot exceed that. It would be impossible to get more than the max because that is the physical limitation. The only harm I would see by maxing out the turbo too soon in the RPMs is that the computer is going to expect more airflow than the turbo can provide and will cause a rich condition.

If youre not stuck on Garrett, you can pick up a Masterpower T70 for about 550 shipped. They are great budget turbos. They also have a T76 for a couple hundred more.

not to fond of MP. looking at Garrett, Turbonetics...etc

I can get the 67mm upgrade for mine for ~$9xx and then I can purchase a whole new turbo for ~$13xx I think (somewhere around there) ... I would think at this point I would def. need a 67 or 70mm for sure.

From Turbonetics I believe that according to their turbo matrix, I would need a T-66 .81 A/R or T-70 .81 A/R

in particular, I like seeing & reading about the FI-61 & FI-62 with the S2 & S3 compressor covers.

http://www.forcedinductions.com/productsFI1.htm

FI-61 at ~71LB/min airflow (I think..)

FI-62 at 72LB/min airflow & supports 700+ HP.

wanting 550RWHP, 18% loss, means 660HP at motor....seems like a nice match to me

ok both of those turbos are no good for what you are looking for!!!!
they flow 70lbs but in the lowest eff. range!!! example the fi62 70lbs@58% that is maxed out!!!! try to find a turbo with the map of 70lbs in the center of the eff. range the fi70 is better but still not perfect...
i say go 70 or bigger but prob a 72-76 will work
Just my 2 cents

TC72 or TC76 is the way to go for a rear mount. Spool quick and will make tons of power over a 62 or 67.

I say, if the 67 upgrade is $9XX, you might as well get the TC76 or TC78 IMO, both A-mazing turbos
