Default Straightline performance 408cui rear mount build

a few little details on the car 408 cui, trickflow heads, custom camshaft, je forged pistons, eagle forged rotating assembly, rpm lvl 6 trans with yank 3600 converter, rpm lvl 3 diff with quaife.

now to the build my goal is to make 700 rwhp but the way things seem we may make more. the heads had to be sent off to open up the chambers to get us to a boost friendly 8.8:1 we were at a 11.1 before.

turbo specs
here you go guys, specs on the turbo

Compressor wheel - 80.31mm/109.73mm 120lbs/min
Turbine wheel - 98mm/88mm
Compressor inlet - 5.5" hose
Compressor outlet - 3" hose
Turbine Inlet - Divided TV91 (T6)
Turbine Outlet - 5.5" v band

TV Turbine Housing A/R - 1.32 A/R

and on with some pics the car before the start of tear down

after tear down

Great build man 700rwhp shouldnt be a problem even with auto with that big SOB.

I just really wish Vette had more sinlge turbo option other than Rear mount..

ya nice vette but i also agree, seems big for a rear mount as well as longtubes. People made more power and got into the powerband a lot sooner with stock minifolds. Take it for what its worth but do some research and read up if you aint already doing them. Not trying to knock it but tryin to give advise for more power!

straightline performance took everything into consideration on this build. we will make some good power guys.. dont worry about that. remember this is going on a 408. that n/a made 500 to the ground on the mustang dyno we were thinking about going with a set of manifolds or shorty headers.. but since i already had the longtubes, they are gonna see what we can do with them.

we may be going with an rear mounted water/air cooler, and we will have a rear mounted oil resevoir for the turbo

Epic FAIL with the long tube choice. Shorty's would work, but I don't think they provide any advantages over stock manifolds. Ceramic coated manifolds are an even better choice.

Like they say, "live and learn".....especially with some shops.

Your correct sir ...... I had the 1.1 hotside on mine and it was able to spool like crazy and drove GREAT ...and made 630 @13psi on a mustang dyno very easy ... You will get to your goals with this setup.. You have alot of Stall, exhaust ( long tubes ) ... what about camchoice?.. I just worry the car will be sorta a turd or have Iffy driveabilty because of overkill on parts choice ... Sorry if i seem like but you have a nice car hate to see you un happy with the end result of your build..

i guess we will see. .. why do the headers make the cars worse? i always thought that it was the exhaust that spins the turbo?... j/w straightline has done several turbo cars in the past all with great results.

because it keeps the exhause hotter n spools the turbo faster n other things but im no turbo expert but seen dyno graphs to show it. Im sure they built turbo cars with great results but maby with a better combo of parts they could have had even better results?? Just some food for thought..............

headers have too much surface area, let all the heat out.
