Default intercooler opinion

Got this dirt cheap, but its only 2.5" in and out, will it work ok on a small single and 6psi? My turbo outlet has a 2.25" ID

I don't see why it wouldn't work. At 6psi you should be fine.

According to Bell Intercooler's site, the core on this IC (which I figured was about 28"W x 10"T x 3.5"D once you subtracted the tank width) would only flow about 435cfm:

Here's their closest core:

3.50Depth 10.10Height 28.00Width 435cfm

I think this IC would be too restrictive. It's cheap, but the cost is too high. And it would leave you with Zero headroom to grow. Save your pennies and get a properly sized unit. Your NA motor alone (I don't have time for the calc right now) probably needs about that much cfm of air, never mind with a turbo.

I have an 81 Malibu and I know there is room in the nose for a decent size IC. My core flows 2048cfm.

There are lots of intercoolers that claim huge flow though, but with very short tubes, the air wont spend enough time in them for any cooling to take place.

So you have to reach a compromise.

Longer tubes may pose more restriction, but they will cool better. Short tubes will flow easier, but cool less.

Although a low boost setup shouldnt produce much heat.

Most of the biggish egay intercooler units are dirt cheap anyway. Just buy a big one of those and use it. The designs are pretty crap, but they work through size alone.

You could use two of them, that would help a lot. Just us a 'Y' before to split the hot stream and another Y after to bring the cold back together. You will cut the restriction per IC in half. One on top of the other would work. Me, I'd just sell it and get a unit like Stevie is talking about.
