Default Oil Return / Drain Advice

I'm continuing work on my single front mount setup. I'm keeping my AC and really don't have a good place for my turbo oil return to go. I originally planned on going to the timing cover next to the crank pulley but there just isn't the room that I need. Can't get to the side of the pan either really. I can't really access much. And I refuse to use a scavenge pump after my experiences with them wit the rear mount setup.

What I did notice is that the path to my oil dipstick port in the oil pan is a very straight shot from my turbo. My question is, how big does the actual hole need to be to reliably return the oil to the pan? The hole now is the size of the stock dipstick tube, somewhere around .400". I can drill it larger but would prefer not to. Advice?

FWIW, the car has an iron block in it with the dipstick provision in the block so I can run an actual dipstick of some kind in that port so I can still check my oil to some degree.

3/4" is a good size for the return.. Don't think you will get that in the dipstik hole...
Not a good idea to exceed 30* off of vertical w/ the drain port.

like Old geezer says, 3/4" is good.

Turbonetics recommends a -4 or -6 feed and a -10 or larger return.
-AN fittings are in # / 16 sizes

10/16 is slightly larger than a half inch by 2 / 16 or 1/8

the bigger the return the better.

why do you have a problem with scavenge pumps? it may be the pump you were using OR something just wasn't quite right. I have the turbowerx exa pump...absolute badass

I know the bigger the better I just wanted to get an idea of how small people have gone without issue.

I used 3 different scavenge pumps with the rear mount and they would always spit oil for the first five minutes if I hadn't driven the car in a couple weeks. Plus it's just more weight and wiring. I think I'll try using the dipstick hole and see what happens.

That's about what it is, I think I'll try it. If it presents a problem, I'll have to change it
