Question about High Octane with forced induction and increasing power?

Question about High Octane with forced induction and increasing power? Lets say your car makes 500rwhp with 8lbs of boost. Does race fuel increase the power output because you now can up the boost or advance the timing or is it both? If I wasn't comfortable upping my boost with the race fuel would just advancing the timing give a significant amount of power?
