Default ls9 cam in a 5.3l?

Looking for a cam for my budget build turbo 5.3l project and came across this cam. I can pick it up for 95 at gmpd. I know i will need the 05 ls2 timing cover, and cam sprocket and my wiring extended but that's easy enough. Motor will have 317 heads and will get a tc76 over the next month or two. Would this cam work for me or is it too big? What springs would you recommend? Thanks.

seems like alot of work and $ to make a cheap cam fit in a cheap motor. If anything, have a custom cam ground to the same specs. itd prob be cheaper

Well ive got a buddy giving me the ls2 timing cover and sprocket for free from his old motor so all i would need is the cam. So it would be cheaper considering a custom cam is around 350+. Just trying to see if it would be to big and what valve springs i should go with.

Looks like Lingefelter suggests the Comp 918's. That cam would work great.

Have u read the sticky on fi cam selection?? Idk if u researched it but its almost identical to lengenfelters gt7 cam I believe and that's why they dicontinued that cam cuz they can't compete with gmpp price on the same cam I. Read that cam gt7 is what lingenfelter uses for 350 to 427 cubic inches for stock to over 1000 hp u can see utube vids of that cam in action in the lingenfelter corvettes.. I bought it for my build then sold it for what I bought it for cuz I was told that for the gains would be small (low boost) and I could use the money for something else. This cam is better for a forged engine with big boost this is my opinion I am not a builder nor shop just conclusions I make from material I've read whether its real or not I'm not idk .. I think it would be better than stock cam in any build except stock ls6 depends on ur goals. Is ur 5.3 forged what r ur goals?? Is street strip?.. it is my understanding because I wanted to boost my stock ls1 for my sand rail and run pumpgas and get maximum hp I would run a cam with more overlap with ported heads and run the same psi but the engine would be making more power and the turbo would flow more at the same psi. When I research to buy a fi cam there was some controversy between what lingenfelter said and they're. Employees recomedations use the search. When I bought the cam gt7 I was going to forged my motor and boost it up. Things changed. I hope someone who knows better will chime in... its cheap so do it but is it ur best option for ur goals???? I want to know for sure too??

Car will be street driven mostly but will see the track occassionaly, max boost it will see is 14-15lbs. Looking for around 550whp. Pretty much a budget build and running this until i buy a 6.0 block and forge it. Next question would be push rods, new stock replacements or what?

Pushrods are one thing you dont want to skimp on. Get some Chromemoly ones from one of the sponsors. They're cheap. where ever you buy the cam can suggest the proper length, but its best to check yourself.

I'm watching, I've thought about this same thing, this cam vs. z06.
