Its a PT88 with a full 4" exhaust to the axle..but from there I wanna step down for more ground clearance out to the muffler and was wondering if doing that at the last 2 feet of the exhaust would hurt my power level..

Turbo's hate backpressure so I will bet it will have a negative impact...

BUT why not make the last 2 feet removable? I doubt you can hook on street anyway so you would have best of both worlds.

In theory, it shouldnt hurt at all. You can reduce the size as the gases cool. The gas becomes more dense so it takes up less space.

Maybe 4 inch isnt big enough really in the first place, so reducing to 3.5 may hurt.....but probably not anymore then the 4 inch.

To quote Yogi: In theory practice and theory are the same, but in practice they aren't.

Make sure you can remove the last section if there is no difference you can always weld it solid...I bet you will see a difference, I did on mine.

But each setup is different.

Good luck

Well luckily this question is useless now. I found a 4" round muffler that im going to run. Its going to be setup similar to a supra with the single slanted outlet..should help with the ricer look for anyone coming up from behind. And thanks. I was supposed to bring it to the track today but I slept late so im going on the 29th. I went 11.3@128.56/1.8 60' last year so im hoping for a better MPH this year and maybe a lower E/T..its def. faster than it was last year but the car is a PITA to launch.

Glad you found a 4" muffler, but like I said I hope you made it removeable.

On mine I would lose ~.5 sec turbos hate back pressure.

Good luck

I recommend you start your thread again

I think th other posters didn't read what you wrote. I think one poster only saw the 2" lenght in the title and I think the other never saw you were putting a muffler on. I bet you will go <11 with the muffler removed if you went 11.3 before with a muffler

Good luck

The muffler is a 4" inlet/outlet straight through design...at 9psi I don't think there would be enough back pressure to hurt things..but then again I could be wrong. The whole exhaust is Vband so I could easily remove the last 2' of it.

Quick Reply: Would stepping down from 4" to 3.5" at the last 2" of my exhaust hurt performance?
