Default Synthetic or non synthetic oil for turbo setup?

I always ran mobile one synthetic 10w-30 in my ls1 but now that it's about to be turbo a few ppl told me I don't want to run synthetic.. True or false? If so what brand and weight oil is best for my turbo?

Ask them why not? Why would anyone not want to run it? So their logic is that upi add an additional heat source to your system your supposed to run shittier oil??? lol.

Thats why i ask! you never know what people are trying to tell you! i figured a synthetic would work very well on a turbo..and obviously by the replies it seems to be the way to go..ill stick with the mobile one synthetic i never had any issues with that stuff but i may try the 15w..

Thanks!

I was running rotella untill the last change, i switched to synthetic 10-30, and i plan on switching back to synthetic rotella, the oil seemed to last longer and the car smoked less with the rotella in it

I have always run Mobil 1 5W30 in my engine. Before and after the turbo and have not had any problems. My turbo's went 2 yrs & 25k miles before the seals finally wore out. Engine is still going at 116k+.

Rotella works good for quite a few guys. It is not however ideal as far as viscosity goes. A group IV or V synthetic of the proper viscosity PCMO (5w-30 or 10w-30, depending on brand) will outperform rotella in a gasoline motor. Granted for most here it is overkill big time, as quite a few conventionals will do just fine with a turbocharged motor.

Rotella is a very good diesel oil(HDEO). Any oil will work as long as it is a current formula. The point is there is an ideal oil for every engine.

This debate goes down everywhere.. When I first read up on syn and reg oil I found the only REAL difference is synthetic does not break down.

Ive had 2 friends that let their turbo cars go 5-6k miles on an oil change. The result: blown turbos. Or maybe they were just shitty subarus. lol
