Default 68 camaro lq4 turbo build

Hi im Josh I have a 1968 camaro that im wanting to put an lq4 turbo motor in but im new to chevrolets so. I chose the lq4 because of its low cost, low compression, and iron block. I want to make somewere between 800-1000 hp when all said and done. Im unsure of what trans to use as well I dont know if the t56 can support my goals or if ill have to use a th400. What size turbo, exc.. This is why I cam here to the pros. Help me out.

Without forging the internals I don't believe you'll see your goal reliably. A single 88mm turbo can get you to your hp goal. Many people shy away from the t56 and go with the th400 or 4l80e. You will also have to have the proper fuel system, i.e. pump, injectors, and boost referenced fpr.

Good luck with your build and remember that whatever your question is, it's probably already been asked. So remember that the search feature is your friend.

what are your intentions with the car Josh? Is it going to be mainly a street car, or more track based car?

The car is going to be a weekend street car so im not worried about mpg or anything. I have built turbo engines before but never an American V8. I like the interstate because you cant pretend to be fast weight is not as big an issue as power and the motor you have put together. Also converter opinions for the th400

So
lq4 408 stroker block with forged internals
Heads ? whats the limits on the stock ones I belive they have 72 or 75cc chambers.
th400 with transbrake
?? converter stall speed ??
Turbo or maybe twins (opinions)
low rear gear 3xx something (I like going fast lol)
last time I hade an engine (SBC) in the car it weighed 3200 lbs with me in it.
weekend street car not to much track 800-1000hp

I don't see any reason for a stroker. My car is a 346 and it is too powerfull for the street unless I crank the boost way down. It only dynoed 750hp. I'm not sure you will need as much power as you are planning, it may take allot of fun away from the car.

will the stock internals hold the700-750hp if so the savings would be worth 50-100hp off my goal.

stock crank will. You will need forged pistons and decent rods.

What about converter stall speed? I read that I should start around 3000 and work my way from there but I really dont want to buy more than one you know.

I had a 4000 converter with my 4l60e and it was fun as hell to drive. Same goes with my th400 and new converter. If you have the power, you'll be fine.
