Default Thinking about going turbo

Well since my D1 Blew up a couple weeks ago and I am faced with buying either a new or used head unit. I have been contemplating selling off my SDCE tensioner setup and my kooks long tubes and building a truck manifold kit.

I have a set of truck manifolds sitting in the garage. I have some fabrication skills and I have been looking at buying a welder. For those of you that have done it your self how hard was it? And what headaches might I have to look for?

I bought a kit off another member and he didnt run a sway bar, so now Im having to modify the kit to keep my sway bar. If you want to keep the swaybar make sure to keep it on for mock up!

Welcome to the darkside haha. Seriously though, Im ******* broke now.

haha yeah all that crap is gone. No AC no sway bar still have power steering but that is only because the Procharger made it a Major PITA to delete.

Also what would be a good size turbo for my forged 347 76mm or 80mm

a little run down motor is a forged 347 with a home ported 243 head with bigger exhaust valves. Vic Jr intake and a big blower cam. about 9.9:1 CR

Sawzall and lots of other tools I have. I work on car for a living and have done everything on my car my self with the exception of the trans and all my other welding I would get a buddy of mine to do it. But I have been wanting to get a welder to do some myself

Wow!!! I never would have thought you would go turbo!...The tc78 would be perfect. My turbos are the tc76's and the 78 is physically the same size to give you an idea. There is plenty of room for it...

Well I went 9.81@141 second full pass with the auto this year with 1.6x 60' just a shake down pass. Had issues when I went back to make my licensing passes and now the car is down with a paper weight for a blower.

I would like to see that car be able to do mid 9's in the heat and some low 9's in good weather.

The car is a street car to some extent but nothing major. Just some cruising for fun

If you are looking to run those numbers with a turbo, it will be hard to beat a PT88.

What does it weigh?

A pt88 may be the turbo for you, a 76gts or similar can go that fast but youd be leaning on it hard.

347 and a GT88 would be the ticket, T4 based if you want to stick to T4. The GT47 comp wheel is a beast in that unit.

Would a B&W ST80 get him there?

Go big or go home.....if you decide to just get another blower, I'll buy those truck manifolds off ya, so I can start building my front mount turbo....I've already got the welder...lol

Looks like I will be doing a little price shopping to see what I can do.

Not sure where I was at this year never got it on the dyno. I know last year with the stock heads and intake I made 676/590 I did an auto swap and went to some ported 243s Vic Jr intake and a bigger cam. Did mainly street tuning. I was planning to put it on the dyno the day after I blew up the blower.
