Cant Afford Forged 347 Sooooo 5.3?
Alright my car has been down for a little over 3 months and im just dying to get her back up and running but this time with a little boost.....
My plans were going to include keeping my block and just using that for the forged 347 build but since money is crazy tight right now and me not having any patience (spell check) im debating the idea of a 5.3 truck motor......
My goals are to reach 550+whp on pump gas (maybe some meth?) the car is mostly a toy and is only brought out on the weekend's......
Mainly im just looking for some of your guys opinions do i save up and just learn to wait? Or since the 5.3's are cheap and make good power on the stock bottom should i just do the swap?!?!?
If you guys have any suggestions please put your two cents in.....

I say put a 5.3 in it N/A until you can actually afford to build it. Unless you already have a complete turbo set up and fuel system? If you cant afford to do it right, you cant afford to do it twice. But like I said... if you already have a complete turbo set up ready for a motor, id throw a JY 5.3 in there and beat it to death!!!!

So far plans include....
5.3 truck motor
DIY truck manifold setup
Master Power T76mm .96 backside
Stock 317 heads with upgraded springs
LS6 intake
60lb injectors
Ported stock tb
Like i said im hoping to break 550whp the old n2o setup made 500whp/577wtq i think my goals arent that high considering some of the other 5.3 setups.....
The thing i like about the JY 5.3's is because within a 10min. search i found atleast 5 of them within a 30min. trip down the road.....

Instead of a 5.3 I would do a 6.0 lq4. It has been proven many times over that your power goals can be reached easily on pump gas with a 6.0. They are cheap to pick up out a junkyard. The other plus is if you blow it up and the block is still good, you can build a forged 370 or go all the way up to a 408 in the future.

You will have no difficulty making your power goals on any of the engines you've mentioned.
Just pick whichever is cheapest or easiest for you. Power delivery may change depending on engine size, but overall, 550 will be easy.

dude get a 5.3! bolt a set of 317s and turn it up. guys here have made 700+ hp with just ARP rod bolts, head studs, and MLS gaskets. it'll be a pig out of boost but the smaller pistons are structurally more rigid than the 6.0 pistons.

the 5.3 will take MUCH more abuse than the 6.0. plus you can make up for the lack of displacement with PSI. go with a 5.3 and put some nice 317s on there with an LS6 cam. with a 76 you will be making more than 600 with good air and fuel.

I don't know about that one Hellbents10 took their stock lq9 to 825 rwhp on19+ psi. I haven't seen a stock 5.3 go that high. I remember Parish8 taking the fairmont into the 9's but that wasn't near 800hp. No matter how you look at it though its amazing that both of these motors can take some really bad abuse and live. Try doing that with a TBI motor out of a 1994 chevy pickup and see how long it lasts!
