Default Solid or Hyd Lifters for this build

Trying to finish off the planing stages for my build so I can determine what I already have and what I need to get.

40x ci w/ 4.0 throw
ported 317 heads to start with
91mm rear mount turbo
I plan to keep the cam as small as possible to get the power I want from the turbo.
Building this to run the mile, then go out maybe 6 weekends a year. The rest of use will be limited daily driving, like on Fridays.

Looking for ~ 1000 whp on the turbo then spray a 200 shot

I want to rev the motor to 6500, but really not much past that.

Will hydraulic roller lifters like morels be up to the task of handling this much power, or would I be better off researching a good solid roller setup?

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Should be fine staying hydraulic since you only want to spin to 6500. The solid roller is more for wanting to spin lots of rpm

That is my understanding, however, does this change around the 1000wheel/20 psi mark because of the forces encountered at this power level?

Not really if you have things properly set up and good lifters you will be fine. I know fireball went well into the 8s before making the switch to Solid Roller. Plenty of other FI cars running low 9s and high 8s on hydraulic set ups

It's a valve control/RPM thing, not a power thing.

I dig that. A conversation with someone wanting to sell me a little more than I might be needing for the application had me questioning this basic truth.

Also, you shouldn't need nitrous to make 1200 rwhp w/ a 40X and a 91mm. You also wont need any crazy amount of boost, RPM or lift that would require a solid roller setup.

He did say rear mount though that might require some nitrous to help spool

I missed the rear mount part but it still has nothing to do with valve train. Keeping the 317's from lifting at those power levels is a whole different ball of wax though.

I just happen to have a set so we'll see at what point they don't work.

At that point I'm sure there's something out there that will work nicely.
