Default Review/Refine my plans

Starting an iorn block build here soon, heres my plans this far

Undecided on CI and compression
LQ9 block half filled
callis crank
compstar or grp rods
diamond or weisco pistons
custom grind cam
main and head studed
LSA gaskets
maybe pin the mains

what else can i do to make this stronger/hold more boost? also im up for suggestions on CI, and compression, id like to hear pros/cons of each

would i benefit from aftermarket main caps and a girdle?

my goal is to be around 1000-1200 with 25-30lbs of boost

you have alot more to research you would have to o-ring the block to safely hold that power also you need a good set of heads with a thick deck id do the main caps fo that kinda power also 25-30 pounds is a ton of boost if your combo is set up right at that boost setting you should be way over 1000.

no go on o-ringing the block, after doing a good bit of reading it seems like its not the way to go. planned on getting a good set of heads. I'm stuck on CI though, cant decide which way to go

where did you read that o-ringing the block is a bad thing??????

If ur goin over 14-15#s, o ring is almost nesacerry(sp).

if u wanna hit 4 digits,

pinned mains
o-ring(possibly even double ring)
1/2" head studs
ls9 gaskets
half filled

thts all i can think of at the moment

seems like i was misguided on the oringing, i have added it to the plans, i had already planned on the 1/2" studs and a half fill

It will be raced on the weekends, but it will also see a lot of street use, year round

Mine pushed water at the same power level with or with out orings. My set up now doesn't have orings. Filling your block is going to help a bunch!

why so much boost? i know a guy that makes four digit hp on a 408 on only 12-13 lbs of boost. u dont needs crazy amounts of boost to make power u just need better flow at a lower boost plus itll last longer

4" stroke is NFG for the street and that power level.
Are you looking for 1000-1200 rwhp or fwhp? Are you looking to be able to go full power on pump gas or race gas?
Figure out what you are going to do about heads first. Then order the appropriate Wiseco piston to get the compression where you want it.
25#'s is about the hardest that I would push one of these blocks. If that isn't enough, then you need a bigger turbo and better induction.
Is this going to be a dyno queen or do you have a goal for the 1/4 mile? At what weight?
Stick or auto?

honestly i couldnt care about dyno numbers, the car is only ran 1/8th mile, im looking at the 5.60-5.70 range on race gas. as far as heads im leaning toward the TFS as cast 225's, which i think are 66 or 64cc, mainly b/c of my budget. The car already has a th400. I plan on keeping the S480 on the car for a while. The car is currently at 3500lbs with me in it, but by the time i get this motor done it should be around 3250 or so.

I'll also add im not afraid of a little nitrous if its needed.

Also wtf if NFG? it may see 200 miles a month on the street if that, mainly in the winter and early spring

OK, I'd build it torquey. Use a stock crank and apply the $1000 elsewhere like a good boost controller (AMS w/CO2). Use an LS6 intake or FAST. Keep the cam in the 230's duration. I'd go forward split with the that turbo. Shift by 7K RPM and 4,500-5K stall. Get the power in as fast as possible. Should work fine.

already have a gmpp single plane and elbow on the car. as of now i may have a deal on a 408 lined up, if that falls through ill be building a stock crank 370. are the ls2 and lq9/lq4 cranks the same? i know the reluctor wheel would have to be changed but thats no problem
