Default what size wastegate do I need?

hey guys Im in the market for a wastegate. I have a masterpower T70 .96 on a ls1 with a turbo cam. down the road I might upgrade to a tc76. I was looking at getting a jgs 40mm gate, piston type. Will the 40 be big enough now and down the road if and when I ever upgraded the turbo.

never a bad thing to go bigger like a 50mm but if you can properly position a 38 then that will be a cheaper alternative and work well for that boost level.

It also depends on placement in the merge pipe as well. Its not all about size (no pun intended). You could have optimal placement and get away with a 38 or you could have really crappy placement and need a 44-60 just to squeak by. All depends on your plans for the kit. If you are going with a bigger charger down the road you're best off going big now and spending a little extra money to make sure you have what you need and only spend the money once. Just my input...

I think you guys are actually agreeing??

I'd run larger as well. For the extra ~$100 it's good to know you'll be safe. Even a 44 or 46 can be had around $300.

needs to be put in the direct flowpath of the exhaust gas pulling from all cyl, no 90* angles

While this is the ideal placement, if the build layout does not permit this, they usually work effectively at a 90* angle as well.
