Stock tb ok for turbo? Also choosing turbo size advice.
So my main question is how well does a stock truck tb do with a turbo? I really don't want to spend the extra cash but will if it will make a significant difference. What size is the truck tb[lm7]?
Secondly im trying to decide between two turbo sizes. Both master power, either a t70 and t76. This is for a 5.3 with stock block and heads minus 02+ls6 cam and springs. I know exhaust ar plays a huge role, and my plan was .96. This will be a rear mount setup w/o intercooler spraying meth. Before you ask, i know intercoolers are cheap now, but i don't have room. I could make some crazy piping and put one, but the amount of bends will kill the flow, and it won't be hidden like im planning it
Anyways what do you guys think, i ran this by the guys at work, and they say im crazy for putting a turbo on a hot rod[all older engineers and an indy race car guy] so im just going to hide it.

Ah yes i forgot to mention my power goals. My original goal was simply over 500rwhp, but 550 sounds nicer!
I originally planned the t76, but the spool time worried me. I will be wrapping the pipes, and im using cast oem c6 headers. Post headers i have a max of 4ft of pipe 2.5" before the merge at the t4 turbo flange. Although i may merge them prior to the flange into a single 2.5" to increase velocity a bit more.
Also what size cold pipe should i run?

I felt .68 was too small, but i also am learning about what works best in a rear mount. I don't want to choke myself with to small of hot side, and with cold pipe size.

A .68 would be fine and will make it spool better on the street and in a rear mount. To give you an example, the truck in my sig weighs 5400lbs (4x4), has a 346ci LS1 motor and ran that 12.21@110 on 15psi of boost with a MP T70 turbo and a .68 a/r That's about 530rwhp and this is at a track that is at 4800' elevation. That had the turbo pretty well maxed out, You can always swap out to a .96 housing later and they're only about $125 new and a direct fit, but I think you will like the .68 better for street use.

I definitely want it more street-able. I won't be tracking it much, if at all. What size IC piping where you using? Fitment wise i don't want to run more than 2.5 because i have to route it through my center X member like my exhaust.
I want to start gathering some parts now, so i can pull the trigger on the turbo as late in the year as possible so i get as much of the warranty before i store the car for the winter.
