Cheap turbo setup

Cheap turbo setup
I have always ran nitrous in all my cars, but have tuned many turbo cars over the years and have been thinking about building a turbo setup for my camaro this winter. My camaro already has a stage 3 (2000hp+) fuel system from nasty performance so that saves alot money. I want to pull my nitrous motor/setup out and build a truck manifold kit that way if I dont like it I am not out of much money and I can easily just go back to my old setup. I plan on just buying a 5.3 or 6.0 from a junkyard, can get both fairly cheap. I have a few questions, is a 6.0 better over the 5.3 for turbo? I just plan on changing rod bolts, Z06 cam, & springs and running it on race gas, its 100% track car.
What size turbo should I get?
What can I expect to run in 1/8 mile?
Thanks

Well the 5.3 is going to be way cheaper and should be easier to find then a 6.0......
Both hold around the same bit of power for the most part all depends on the setup of course.....
As far as what size turbo to go with that depends on your goals i would say a 76mm (.96) backside should do very good on either motor!

Looks like you'll be running a Glide... do you have a trans brake? Both the 6.0 and 5.3 would work fine. I'd look into an S475 since it's a straight race car. They're physically very large but they're less than $600 new and can make enough power to push a stock block to it's limit for sure. And if you have a trans brake and 2 step, getting it spooled shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks everyone. I have a glide w/brake. I also have a two step and all the other normal electronics in a racecar. Whats the max hp I can get out of a 5.3 before it starts pushing water?
I plan on running a single plane carb intake, can I run my accufab TB I have now or do I need to run an elbow and a normal TB?
I also only have 60lb injectors for my nitrous motor will they work on a max effect stock 5.3 or will I run out duty cycle?

Both motors will usually push once you are over 500rwhp. On Skinnies 5.3, and my 6.0 we use studs/LS9 gaskets and have yet to push water at ~700rwhp. In a Fbody with some weight out, I would expect 6.00-6.40 in the 1/8th at 110-116. Both motors still have LS1 intakes/stock TB, but both are on E85 with 83lb injectors. If you stick to racegas the 60s will get you close to what the 5.3 can handle.
I try to keep back pressure down as much as possible to help keep the heads down, 5.3s seem to like T4 .96 76/78MM turbos, on a 6.0 I would try and stick with a small T6 flanged set up.

I wouldn't hesitate to go to 900+rwhp with rods/pistons and a thicker deck head with studs/gaskets. Im not sure how far the stock castings will go and still hold water, but I would imagine 900+ would be do-able.

I would like to run close to 5.5-5.6's but want to run the 5.90 index they do around here. I would like to run 5.9's every pass all weekend but be able to go faster to play around. My car has alot of weight reduction, glide, etc, its not a street car. Is running mid 5's out the question? What about spraying nitrous with the turbo or is it better just to have more boost?

UPDATE:
Just bought a truck manifold kit from a friend minus the turbo. I just need a S475 turbo and I should be set. I also have a cam only LS1 with a vic jr in my car now with a accufab 4150 tb. Can I just buy a turbo carb hat and run my same tb? I have a LG G5X3 cam right now, would it be better to swap to a LS6 or a turbo cam? This is in my camaro, that is a strictly a track car.
Thanks

do yourself a favor and buy an extreme velocity carb hat. they're worth quite a bit of power over the spectre POS's. some run with the divider, some run without.
im not sure if the carb hat would even fit, but i cant imagine it being taller than an intake elbow and throttle body, and the 4150 tb should help with air distribution.
