Default GT47 80, Can I use this turbo & what ci is it good for?

I have the opportunity to buy a barley used GT47 80mm turbo, it was purchased for a specific class and by the time the build was done the class was canceled. Its literally been down the track just a couple of times. I also have the option of picking whatever hot and cold AR's I want, the guy that has it is keeping the housings that are on it now but will let me pick the ones I want when he orders the replacements & give me the new ones. Any recommendations?

I'd also like to know what kind of ci I can run with this turbo, if I buy it I want to make sure it will work with my future engine plans. Just wanted to bounce that off a few of you who may have used this turbo or something similar. Thanks

Sounds like a max effort 80mm class turbo. 92mm turbine side probably with a T6 setup, would work great on a 346-370 engine if going for max effort. Similar to the standard BW S480 with T6 flange that everyone uses. I'm not sure if you've seen the physical size of that turbo but a GT-47 hot side is huge. Unless you are limited by class the GT-4788 is the same size and would make more power. If it has the new Garrett GTX 80mm wheel that bad boy flows some serious air.

Yes it was for an 80mm class, & it is a T6. I have seen it and do agree it is HUGE. Do they come with a 96mm turbine? I asked him about that and it was 9x I was thinking it was a 96.

Here's a link to more specific info. It was a 92mm exhaust turbine.

EDIT: I get the cold housing its a 1.08, how well will that do on a 6.0L based engine?

Does it have the 11 blade GTX billet compressor wheel or the standard cast GT wheel?
This turbo sells for $1,900 from Forcedinductions.com and they rate it to 1300 flywheel hp. I think around 18-22 lbs of boost this thing will put you well into the 8's. Should be a good turbo if you plan on spinning it to 7000 rpm with a decent sized stall. It will be a bit laggy for a street car but you should not have any backpressure issues with the T6 flange and 92mm turbine wheel.

If it has this wheel than it will rip even more

Not sure, he's seen this thread so maybe he will text me again and let me know if thats the compressor wheel it has or not. I had the AR on the cold side housing wrong, its not 1.08 its .69, I always manage to get things mixed up. He sad he paid 1800, & he got a pretty good deal on it from what he told me.

It really depends on what your goals are. The nice thing is if you ever decide you need more you can upgrade to the 88mm wheel and the thing will flat out rip without pushing it as hard. Just so you have an idea the GT-4788 is rated @ 1500 flywheel hp. These units are the best you can get when you need to go as fast as possible on a mid frame cast wheel setup. Guys have gone 5.5's with a GT-4780 and I believe even a 5.2x with a light well setup car.

Its only a 92mm turbine side on those units. Stick to around 346-370ci with that unit. You will be happy with the response and backpressure won't become to much of an issue. We do offer the ET-R wheels for the GT47's.

If I gave you guys at Forced Inductions a GT4708 turbo what sort of magic could you work on it in an 88mm range for something slightly under 400ci? I've been thinking about a new engine for something I have in the works and am tracking down information.

If I went the route of 80mm cast wheel for a while and then decided to go ETR / GTX billet down the road what sort of cost is it to have the unit upgraded?
