nice, been considering this instead returning my oil in the valve cover via the STS style return. does it matter exactly where on the oil pan as long as its above the oil level in the pan? been thinking right over the drain bolt.

I like to have the drain ABOVE the oil level and BELOW the windage tray.
When the oil pump sucks the pan dry.....it will be above the oil level

but on a serious note....either the pan or front cover will work great

i did alittle research and heres what i found, i actually thank you cause i anwsered my own question lol

The correct bit for any tap should be 90% of the tap size.

NPT requires an 50% increase adjustment since it is measured differently than drill bits.

Therefore, 1/2 * 1.5 (50% increase) = 0.75
0.75 * 90% (tap to drill bit conversion factor) = 0.675

Drill bit sizes in that range
21/32 = 0.6563
11/16 = 0.6875
23/32 = 0.7188

11/16 is the closest and the correct size for that tap.

1/2” NPT is compatible with up to –10 AN (5/8” hard line)

heres a link for aeromotive explaining it alot better then i ever could.
http://aeromotiveinc.com/2010/01/an-vs-npt/

the reason i use the 1/2 NPT cause usually thats what is on a 10an fitting thats used on non AN parts, other then welding of course lol so if you get a 1/2 to 10an adaptor fitting, BAM!!! you got yourself a fitting to go in you oil pan, which is what im going with

Here's where I put mine, way above the oil level and the metal there is quite thick so I just drilled and tapped it. Works good and doesn't require finding someone who can TIG weld lol.

Because oil will backup in your drain. You want your return fitting above the oil level

Old thread I know.
I'm using a -10 bung welded to the timing cover at the passenger side about 7 o'clock. Also using a truck pulley since my only accessory is a low mount drivers side alternator. My turbo is mounted high on the passenger side. Question is for guys with similarly located oil return locations, are you using a 90 or a 45 coming out of the timing cover? Any issues with a 90 in that location?
