Default 99 SS D1SC with a lil show and go!!! lots of pics

We recently had the pleasure to work on this extremely mint 20K mile SS. I have worked closely with this customer over the last 6+ years going from a stock car to what it is today. The car came to us complete and in perfect running condition, but every year he is looking for a little additional power and dressing it up.

The original plans were for a header & y-pipe upgrade, 92mm intake/tb, a few under hood dress up items & a re-tune. We had another talk about the build a couple weeks before drop off and the project became a little more extensive with removing the engine to paint the engine bay, new intercooler, and lots of misc relocation and deleting of items.

Pre AMS Mod List:

Stock short block
Speed Inc. 222/222 cam
AFR 205 64 cc
6.0 MLS gasket
LS6 intake
Speed Inc. fuel system .. billet rails, twin walbro’s, Aeromotive Reg., 60# inj.
SuperMaxx 1 ¾ headers with cats, DMH cutout, SLP dual/dual
D1SC w/ 8 rib 4.25 pulley, ATI PULLEY, stock intlet, twin intercoolers / 10ish psi @ 6800 rpm
FLT Level 7 w/ Yank SS3600 w/ B&M 70264
Strange S60 w/ 3.54
Strange CM 3" shaft
Strange Double on all 4 corners
UMI trans crossmember and torque arm relocation pkg.
UMI K-member and A-arms
UMI ADJ. LCA’s
SLP SFC's and DSL
OE C5 DD 18” wheels w/ Nitto 05R 315/40 and NT05 275/40
Speed Inc. tuned / 100 octane

AMS mod list:

• R&R engine/trans
• Engine bay smoothed and repainted body color
• New GM valve covers.. painted
• ABS delete
• Custom brake lines to relocate linelock and added proportioning valve ( behind shock tower )
• extensive wire relocation and clean up.. both body and engine harness were cleaned and rewrapped as well as extension harness made for some items
• New GM water pump and 160 t-stat .. polished
• LS6 valley cover ( painted )and PCV conversion with Boomba check valve
• Yo Fab SS/Chrome dress up package
• Fuel system revision for appearance reasons only.. OEM lines cut back to tunnel and converted to AN lines , relocated lines and Aeromotive reg. to driver side wheel well
• Lots of polishing and painting little items
• ARP SS hardware for intake, tb, valve covers, water pump
• ATI Race FMIC ( polished ) and race valve ( enclosed ) which we added a large K&N to keep it a bit more quite
• AMS custom 3.5" charge side ( out of intercooler to TB ) custom painted.
• ATI Truck intake with K&N RF-1015
• FAST 92 .. ported, smoothed & painted
• NW TB ( polished )
• Kooks 1 7/8 headers ( polished ) w/ ORY
• BMR stainless radiator shroud
• NEW Truck coils and brackets..painted
• MSD wires / TR7 plugs
• Wazee’s billet idler and PS pulley ( polished )
• Katech billet tensioner ( polished )
• Silicone radiator hose kit
• B&M 70273 trans cooler w/ AN line conversion and custom fabbed mounts
• Lokar 36” trans dipstick
• Spohn 1” rear sway bar
• Powder coated and smoothed calipers/brackets by Sean at The Powder Pro
• AMS brake lines
• Detailed under body
• AMS Tune / 100 octane

Steel Ridz is responsible for all the paint work and airbrushing on this car. The VFN SS hood was removed and the underside had many hours put in to smooth and match the amazing work on the outside. The SS front grill was also modified and painted body color to make good use of the new ATI FMIC and I have to say it looks amazing. They also added a square tube crash bar just behind FMIC for added safety with this being a street car. The entire front end assembly was disassembled & painted while apart ( between front cover and core support ) which greatly adds to the details and cleanliness of this build. The final detail was adding SS hardware.

I have to say that pics don’t do this car justice at all.

Prior to the work here at AMS the car ran a best of 10.4@130 (1.49 60ft) in cool, nice weather with 500ft. DA @ 3900 # race weight. The car was making approx. 590rwhp @ 10psi on a DJ.

We have a Mustang Dyno, so to verify our gains we performed a pre-dyno on the car which made 483 rwhp / 417 rwtq @ 10 psi compared to the previous DJ numbers. It was hotter at the time of the pre-dyno which I’m sure resulted in a bit lower #’s

The final #’s after the AMS re-tune are 624 rwhp / 520 rwtq w/ 12.8 psi @ 6800 rpm.

I believe the truck inlet and larger filter are a great upgrade as seen here by the gain of 2+ psi

We were able to get the SS to the track Sunday 9/25 and were very pleased with our 1st outing. 10.29@134

The 60 ft. was only a 1.59, the DA was +1600 & the run was made with a 200lb. passenger putting race weight at 4000+ lbs. The car went 136 on his first pass without a pass, but the 60ft was only a 1.7x due to rolling into the throttle getting a feel for the track and new combo. We are hoping with some better air, the 60 back into the 1.4’s & no passenger we can sneak it into the 9’s in the next couple weeks 

enjoy the pics

cool before/after shot ( still need to trim & install pcm cover )

The car is driven just about daily if the sun is out and raced a few times a year. This is no garage queen.

looks nice!i would think the biggest hp gain would have been from the addition of the front mount intercooler...those ATI units are marginal at best, once again looks nice good work!

thanks Dan!

yes the new FMIC is a very nice upgrade though a little pricey. This is surely a much better setup over the twins and their lack of air flow to them.

The intake was more so looks, but seen some people noting some nice gains so another little plus. The truck intake is much nicer and with the FMIC gave us the opportunity to take advantage of it. The Kooks are surely a much nicer header and with the 3" Y sure it helps. I know its hard to put a # on what was what, but overall nice gains IMO.

thanks
