Yes, another 5.3 build question...
Hey guys, I'm not really new to the site, just to posting. I've been reading on here for a good while and have about 90% of the info I need from doing so.
Anyways, I'm in the process of a 5.3 turbo build, using a TC76 or ON3, whichever I can get my hands on first, 60# injectors, most likely meth injection, and a dual walbro 255 set up. I'm shooting for around 550 rwhp, it's not a dd, and it will be a street car 95% of the time, since I know someone will ask.
On to the actual question... I just picked up a complete 5.3 for dirt cheap, but it has 133,xxx miles on it. I'm wondering if you guys would suggest new rings and bearings just for some insurance or if I should just throw it in and run it?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Did it pass a compression test?
"dirt cheap"?? How cheap?
I say run it if its dirt cheap, if your gonna go in and do rings and bearings, you'd honestly be about a fool to not do pistons and rods, pistons at the very very least.
Just my .02

a good look under the valve covers. If the engine had regular oil
changes it should be fairly clean. Check the exhaust ports for sticky
oil deposits. If its not too bad other than the common exhaust soot, I would not worry too much about it. Also make sure it turns over ok for several revolutions by hand. I have a buddy that bought a 6.0 and it ended up having 2 bent rods. it would turn over fine for 3/4 of a complete revolution, then get very hard. Just something to be aware of.

By dirt cheap I mean 200 bucks.
And I already hand spun the motor through a few full revolutions. No issues whatsoever. I'm gonna take off the valve covers after I get it settled on the engine stand this weekend and check over everything.
Thanks for the advice guys. I can't wait to get everything going
