The sound of the wastegate opening and hearing raw exhaust really ruins the awesome sound of the turbo whistle. i want to tone down the exhaust sound of my wastegate, is there any side effects of having the wastegate routed back into the down pipe?

i thought i had read somewhere that some people claim the turbo spools slower with the wastegate routed into the downpipe
i really want to do this, i can barely hear the turbo over my waste gate once it opens up

If your down pipe is on the edge of being too small, I could see the extra exhaust gas from the gate increasing back pressure. If that happens you could have boost control issues. That being said i run my gate back into the dp. 4 " dp 88mm turbo 402ci 44mm gate and have no boost control issues. I don't like the sound of an open gate either.

A typical modded Buick GN from 1987 runs easy 11's(larger DP,inj, turbo upgrade) and they have dumping into the exhaust at the turbo for decades,a few decades actually..............
no loss of power, just a better sounding whine from the turbo

dumped wastegates just sound like an exhaust leak, I think they sound like doo-doo
Mine is ran back into the DP, probably a foot and a half or so down the pipe is where it enters Only two pics I could find with the turbo (among other things) not on the car
With the turbo on and car in 1 piece you really can't see anything though. I Don't think there is any disadvantage to running it back into the DP, unless like someone above said you're DP is already on the small side, it "might" not help....
