Damn that's a tradgedy.
Shawn, are the sleeve's thin in the 454 or something? I imagine his motor came with a good forged piston, so what about it isn't built for boost? Needs aftermarket sleeves?

The combination of a thin cylinder wall due to the max bore to achieve 454 along with a bit of detonation will do that in no time. The short piston skirts don't help either...

The 454 bore is 4.185... I guess that's too thin for boost and it is a tragedy. I never thought a LSX block would do that. A Darton sleeved LS2 (4.125) would be better then that.

4.185 bore is wayyyyyyyyyyy to thin for boost. We make 44 to 50lbs boost evey pass but the bore is only 4.125. Some of the early blocks are know for core shift, combine that with a large bore, and well the pictures show it. Do you know if this was a early block or a latter block?
