Default Precision Turbo went bad twice in 3 months....now what?

I posted a thread a while back. I purchased a set of PTE62/62's. One of them went out after 1500 miles and 3 passes at the track, maybe a few more. This is 90 percent street car. Sent it back to precision under warranty and I was told it went bad because I didn't let the car idle down and it wore the bearings out. Of course the other turbo isn't having any issues. I pay over $500 to have it fixed. I have less than 300 miles on it and have no drag strip passes and the damn thing has gone out again. Of course the other turbo is still fine.

My set up is identical on both sides. I have a GM distribution block above the oil filter that has a -4 line that runs to a "T" and feeds each turbo with a -4. I have checked to ensure I have oil coming out on both lines and I do. The oil drain back is identical which is -10's to the front of the oil pan and above the oil level. Both turbos are level and no restrictions from the wastegate and downpipe. I use one BOV and it is working. You can see the valve move and you can hear it plain as day when you let off the gas.

They didn't cover it under warranty the last time so I am sure they don't plan on it this time. Am I doing something wrong? I just think the turbo was bad to begin with. They sold it to me after it was rebuilt. So this would be the third rebuild. Any ideas or suggestions? I can't just scrap the entire thing.

I wonder if maybe the "T" is causing the problem and it maybe a "Y" would be better suited.

Sorry to hear that bro. I do remember reading your last thread and thinking wtf. Doubt you want to fork over another $500 nor switch the good turbo to what may be a bad line configuration. Maybe a cheap set of Ebay turbos can you hold you down and even help you figure this problem out.

I would suggest selling the other turbo and buying a different brand. My friend has gone through three 67's on his 2L honda seems they have been having alot of problems latley.

Maybe I will try a "Y" What doesn't make sense is the same amount of oil is flowing with the engine running, to both turbo's. I took both turbos off and fired it up with the lines flowing into a jar. Both filled the same amount in about 20 seconds. It wasn't alot but it was the same amount.

I may be forced to go cheap ebay.

I can be one of many guinea pigs brother. Already have my T70's just need to throw the cam and trans in and run all the wires. I will look at your thread to see how you ran the -4 hoses and distribution block.

I may just send it off to someone else. I bought it rebuilt with no miles but under warranty. It then goes to ****, I pay for a rebuild even though under warranty. It's still under warranty and it goes to **** again. If it was happening to both of them I would think I was doing something wrong.

I'd call them up again and raise 18 different kinds of hell, and make them rebuild that bitch for free and try like hell for my other $500 back. Hell if it's under warranty let them rebuild it and try it again, if it happens again demand a different turbo because there is obviously something wrong with that one. Heck I'd be trying to get a different turbo this time.

There's a reason they boost Mustangs. Invest in a Cobra and don't look back.

Get it rebuilt and sell both the precisions. Then buy some Comp oiless turbos and never have to worry about another oil line.

Only down side to comp is the fact you have to send them back every X mile or X hours. so you got like 3-4 days to ship to them ( over night would kill) 3-4 days for them to fix it. 3-4 days back to you.

i would HATE to put my car down for 2 weeks.

All I know is I have never seen turbos that fail at the rate of the Precisions. By a Garrett or BW if you want something rock solid.

The comp only needs to be sent in after 50k miles. That takes forever for most of us.
