I just checked Car-Part.com and a local yard has a 2005 LQ4 with 277k on it for $800. They say it runs good though, lol. I could probably part that out pretty easily and use the block and crank.

If you have room, might consider grabbing a salvage van or whatever for motor and sell the rest for profit.

I have enough trouble getting out into my heated garage to work on my car let alone tearing apart a parts van. Lol

Finally got the drivetrain dropped out of the car this weekend with the help of a buddy. After separating the transmission from the engine I attempted to remove the torque converter. I couldn't get the thing off and it felt like it was welded on there. After messing with it for about 10 minutes I finally grabbed a pry bar and was able to persuade it to come off. This is when we noticed that the pump bushing was still stuck to the converter.

Have been told it could have been several different issues that possibly caused this. Going to send the converter in and have the trans looked at. At least I found the source of my leak!

I have also decided just to go ahead and use my current block with the new rods and pistons. I plan to get it torn down this week and get it out to the machine shop so he can get started on it. I'll keep the updates coming as I have them.

Yeah same thing here in California. I refuse to pay someone those price for a questionable engine. I'll gladly go to the junkyard, pull a long or shortblock, and send it to the machine shop for forged pistons and rods and not be out of too much more than a engine that's supposed to be a "low mile pullout" That's just me though.

Supply and demand I guess. It sucks as prices back in the mid/late 2000's were great. You couldn't give aways a ls1 intake and now they are $200+

That sucks to hear. Weren't you going to change converter company's? What's the plan for the trans, rebuild or change it up. TH400, PG?

Was thinking of going with the PTC non-lockup but I am going to send this back to Circle-D and have Chris see what he can do. I may just bite the bullet and go with the 252mm from them.

I am going to take the trans into a local builder and see what he says. It still shifted and everything just fine but I am sure the pump is trashed now. I may switch up the trans at some point but for right now I will keep rocking the 80E.

I'd talk with Nate Shaw about his 4l80 and it's progression. They have a local builder they use up in MN.

Yeah, I've seen what Nate has done. I am not ready to go full manual valve body though. I've zero issues with the 80E up until this point. The converter needed sent back anyway as it was extremely loose up top.

Got the engine on the stand tonight. Time to start tearing it down.

Nate does has been doing his own stuff for awhile now, the guy that was doing it sold his business and has a no-compete contract.

Intermediate billet pressure plate is important in the 80e as it tends to help keep the intermediates alive a lot longer. Anything over 1000hp I would do a non-lockup and full manual valve body.

I will never use a 80e for anything high horsepower every again. I had nothing but problems from the start. I had the best of everything in mine and it still wouldn't live. I couldn't get a full summer out of mine ever.

I don't plan on making 1000 hp this year. I will switch to a TH400 or a glide if the car gets anymore serious.

Would have helped if it wasn't purple. 252mm lock up converter ftw!

willing to bet thats a circle D converter lol. We've had about 6 converters come out exactly like that. Only on the 80e stalls, never on the 60s or 400s. Came to the conclusion that it's probably their proprietary machined input hub that is a bit "too thick". And yes, changed converter brands and issues went away.

Doesn't matter, I am not the only to have issue regardless of color.

I have a circle d converter as well in a 4l80e. It probably doesn't have but maybe 100 street miles on it. Had It behind a turbo 5.3 in my Silverado. On my last street race going into second the trans went to slipping and basicly blowed fluid everywhere out of the overflow. Got truck home and noticed the same as u. Front pump whining like crazy. I don't have a leak but pump has to be bad. Trans fluid smells fine and looks fine, but level doesn't drop when running. It was a circle d 3400 2b. Very possible I am having the same issue. Converter was crazy tight, down low. I havnt pull trans yet but plan to this weekend.

By the way love the car! clean setup!
