Yea I saw Denmah dyno post with the new jakes converter! I wouldn't be surprised if everybody running a 80e setup doesn't switch to a jakes setup. He knows his **** when it some to the 80e platform. Hell I may send this circle d back to be cleaned and inspected to sell and try jakes or PTC.

I had an issue with my 4L80 once where the front seal was leaking. PTC told me it could be a number of things blah blah. I was running a stock flexplate, and my trans builder and PTC recommended going to an aftermarket SFI piece. I haven't had any issues since. I'm about to pull it for a t-brake, 300M input, and roller drum that I got from Jakes, so we'll see if it's still ok.

I've had the same Hughes SFI plate since the car was first put together. Haven't ever had an issue like this until the converter was converted to a triple disk and the trans was rebuilt.

I finished tearing the engine down this weekend and got it over to the machine shop. Everything looked pretty good inside after four years of beating on it.

Rod bearings looked pretty decent and to my surprise I had no bent rods.

I forgot to grab some pictures of the main bearings before I took everything to the machine shop. A couple had some grooves in them but other than that we didn't find any areas of concern.

One thing I did find when removing the heads was a piece of aluminum resting in one of the lifter trays. No idea what it is or where it came from. I looked over the heads and couldn't find any areas that looked like something broke off.

Going to hopefully send the converter off this week to get fixed and reworked. Hopefully I will get the trans taken in this week as well.

This is my favorite build on tech. How far you have taken a gen 3 6.0 shows how well the car is tuned motor wise and suspension. I kind of wish you would throw some gen 4 stuff in to see how much further you can take it but I understand that if the engine is going to be rebuilt you might as well do it right. Can't wait to see your progress.

And FYI your base tune worked beautifully for my car so thank you very much it saved me a lot of time and headache when it came time to start.

I even had a good Gen 4 6.0 in my garage up until two weeks ago. I picked it up as a just in case engine and even contemplated on using it instead of going through with the forged stuff. Hopefully this new build doesn't give me any issues now!

No problem on the tune as well. Glad it worked out for you man.

Looking good man! Sell that GEN III 6.0 and get you a cheap block and crank from the junkyard.

I'm having a forged setup built as well. I'm going to sell my GEN III setup. It's capable of 5.70's lol Probably faster, but I'm already moving on.

Thanks! I already tore the Gen 3 down and am using the block and crank with the forged goodies. I had another 6.0 with Gen 4 guts but sold it off to fund my transmission fix.

I sent my converter back to Circle-D for a refresh as well. Chris said he would warranty the work and send it back to me (Awesome customer service!). The plan then is to sell off the 258mm triple disk and purchase one of their 252mm single disk converters. With the new 252mm I shouldn't need to lock it at WOT and it will save about $200 on the purchase price. If anyone reading this is interested in my old converter then please let me know. It's done me well and would work great in a 700-750 hp footbrake application and I imagine could be tightened up more up top and work well with a transbrake.

I am dropping off the transmission this evening at a local shop to be looked at. Hopefully the pump is still good and there's nothing else wrong with the trans. I have no reason to believe anything else is wrong but you never know.

I ordered some new hose and fittings to redo my fuel feed as well. The current line is showing its age and I wanted to redo it to feed both rails instead of just one. I didn't want to take any chances when I start leaning on it harder and figured I might as well spend a little more on a few fittings and a y-block and do it how most would suggest.

I also ordered a new jacket and pants for this year. Last year I borrowed a buddies jacket on occasion when his car was down and don't want to rely on that again or run into the risk of being hassled for not having one.

That little piece looks like the bottom of a head bolt hole? Doesn't look like alum.
Something to check at least.

I'd imagine metal went through the trans. Hopefully not too bad.

Your rod bearings looked more like wear from junk in the oil as opposed to wear from boost. Prob was time to replace anyway.

Good luck with everything!

I am finally starting to get excited about the car again. I am sure many can relate that it's hard to stay motivated in the winter/build season and when waiting on parts.

I picked up a bumper awhile ago and finally got around to getting it painted. My old bumper was cut and cracked in places that made it look like crap and flop around while driving. I have a buddy who works at a body shop and he hooked me up with painting the new one.

My engine is nearing completion and I will be picking that up this week at some point.

The heads were gone through as well. He also is pinning the crank for me.

I also received word from the transmission guy. It needed a new pump and some clutches, no surprise there. I will get that picked up this week too.

Quick update for anyone still following. Have been doing some tidying up, ordering new parts, etc. Got the engine and trans picked up awhile ago and getting them all ready to go back in the car. Hoping to get that done within the next week or so.

A couple of pics of the engine. I've got the covers, heads, oil pan, sensors, block painted, etc. all done. This was shortly after I picked it up though.

Ordered some new parts and have been painting a few things. Got a new oil pan, alternator, and catch can.

Got my compressor cover all painted as well. I did the alternator bracket too.

My goal is to have it running and tuned next month. We will see if that happens or not but there's an event in early July that I want to make.

I'm pretty anxious to see how the circle D 252 works for you and footbraking it. I have a Yank 3400 and I'm looking for a replacement

Post up if you are ever heading to Eddyville to run the car. I'd love to see it in person.

hey wanted to reply to this about your issue with the converter. I just tore my 80e completely down for a rebuild. Trans burnt up bc the front pump bushing went out. The circle d 2b converter is all messed up inside. Wonderin if the converter took the trans out? I had a FTI 3800 for a few years in this same trans without any issues. Swapped to the Circle D and trans took a dump after not even 100 miles.

The converter was tight as hell. Couldn't even muster a damn burn out! Sucks but I'm about to drop some coin on a PTC!

I didn't end up going with the Circle-D but for the past month I wish I would have. I ended up ordering an R&R Racing Torque Converter due to all the rave reviews I have seen all over Facebook and numerous badass car owners vouching for him (I know I know). It was about half the cost of what the Circle-D 252 was going to cost me and I was supposed to have it in 4-5 weeks. Well I ordered it on March 14th and still do not have the damn thing. It's been a long road and the guy who runs the shop lost his help a couple of months ago and fell behind due to all the new customers and lack of help. It should be here this week though so we will see what happens when the car is finally running. It's a 9.5" single disc.

I couldn't justify spending an extra $7-800 on a Circle-D. Even if the converter I ordered doesn't end up working out (which I don't see why it won't) I plan to order a PTC and after selling the other one I will still be well under the price of a Circle-D 252. I also don't see my car going much further than where it will be. It very well could be for sale at some point this year.

Very well could be. I have heard of others having the same problem with their Circle-D converters as well. Part of the reason I went with another company but the main reason was cost. Even the badass PTC 9.5" converter is $500 less than a single disc 252 from Circle-D.

Anyway, even though the converter issue has set me back, I am not sure how much further I really would be along at this point. I have been pretty busy during the week and have been enjoying other things that aren't car related.

Just this past weekend my wife and I flew to Kentucky via two tiny planes. We rented a car in Owensboro and drove to Bowling Green to meet up with some buddies on the Hot Rod Power Tour. That night we then drove to Nashville for the night. Went to bed at 3 AM and were out the door by 7 AM. We were on our way to Campbellsville, KY to pickup a new truck that this whole trip stemmed around. After doing the deal we met up with some of my wife's family in Columbia, KY. From there we drove back to Owensboro to drop off the rental. Then we made our way to St. Louis to meet up with the same people we hung out with the night before. Stopped at a shop called Vermillion Speed Shop and were there until 9 PM or so. Went and grabbed some food and were on the road back to Iowa at 11 PM. Rolled into the garage around 4:30 AM, slept for a couple of hours and went to pick up the kids from the Grandparents. Was a pretty eventful Father's Day weekend.

I ended up finding a 2003 Silverado 1500HD with 52k miles on it. I gave $15,500 for it which I thought was a smoking deal. It's fully loaded, leather, bose, etc. It's in great shape and most importantly, no rust! It will sit in the garage and serve as a toy hauler when called upon.

Nice rig man. Im sure you will get years of service out if it. It seems like converter people are just like interior or body shops. Over promise, under deliver, and expensive....oh well, welcome to hot rods.
