Default E85 guys come in...

Well my brother is taking his truck to the track Saturady, and while playing around on the street we've noticed that with E85 the truck loves a lot of timing, but I'm not sure how much is safe? I've pushed as much as 18*@12#s, 16*@14#s and 14*@16#s... We wanna run more but we're not sure where the limit is? We haven't gotten any knock at all yet.. also, at what AFR are you guys makin the most power?

His truck has a '99 4.8L w/706 heads, ARP studs MLS head gaskets, Isky triple 12 cam and a 76mm front mount.

I'd have to check my AFR on e85, but my car is tuned to about 20* of timing on e85(17.5psi) and about 15-16* on 93 octane(12.5psi). e85 is very knock resistant and my tuner said he could push more safely, but it gets to a point of diminishing returns.

My AFR averages at about 11.7, timing is set at 22* IIRC. I wasn't getting any benefit from running more timing. When I was NA I ran 28*. I run 6.5 psi on my setup.

Throw more boost at it... I run 22lbs in my DD 87 Grand National and even in this 100+ deg heat it's happy as a clam.

Ok, are any of you guys running stock bottom ends? I guess I should have stated that in my question, I'm curious what guys are running without hurting stock bottom ends.

Just got mine tuned, and not quite done.
Stock bottom end ls1, 47xxx, ls6 cam, Kytp kit with a pt 7675, e85
We are having boost creep problems with the pw46 wastegate, so haven't pulled it to high yet. I live in San Antonio, so with the heat it made 602 rwhp, 570 tq with 12* timing, 12.5 lbs, pulled to 5800.

In a month or so, we will be adding a 50mm wastegate from josh at kytp, and extending the exhaust out the back. The plan is to bring it down to 10lbs, run 14-16*, and pull it to 6200. We think it wil be close to 650 rwhp.

Glad you brought this up. I'm running 18*@13-ish psi, stock bottom end LS1. Would like some timing advice too.

What are your iats with no intercooler? E85 is real nice ( I run it also ) but I would either run meth or intercooler or both..I think you are leaving power on the table not cooling that air down. 30 degs of timing on 20 #`s in the summer heat he is the luckest guy alive. A 5.3 is hard to break item.
