What is the strongest year GEN III 4.8 , 5.3 ?
I am going to have to get another shortblock, and since I am starting over
was wondering what year model was the strongest (i.e.) rods?
Are the 4.8 pistons that much stronger than the 5.3? Or does it really matter?
Is there much debate over the 4.8 rod ratio being superior over the 5.3?

I asked this about the 5.3 in a different thread and got told that the 05 and up 5.3 have stronger rods and "floating" pistons. SO needless to say, I will be looking into getting a JY 5.3 when I get back home lol

Gen IV's are going to be your strongest, however the AFM is a bit more complicated then the Gen III's. I was bummed and excited for my 05, albeit that it's aluminum, the mains are 4-bolt, as usual, but also bolted to the block through the sides of the cap. The AFM stinks, because not only do I have to change the lifters, I also need a Gen III valley cover and lifter retainers.

I could change the crank to a 24 reluctor but I dont think my GEN III cam will work.
