Dirt cheap to replace and about as boost friendly as they come.

The last stress test I seen was 1200hp stock block. If it blows depending where you live 500-1000 bucks for another junk yard motor and drop it in and the way you goooooooo.

Agreed! Search here on the FI setups. You will see some crazy power made with these 5.3L Ive decided to switch my build from a turbo 6.0 to a 5.3L turbo because it's cheaper and it handles boost very well.

Which is weird because you can find 6.0's for not much more. I got one complete for 650 with 105k on it and the other for 700 bucks

i paid $660 for my low mileage 4.8.... 5.3's were about the same but they didnt have any in stock....6.0's were $1200 at a minimum......IMO not really worth the price since you could put that money into a 4.8 or a 5.3 and mop the floor with the 6.0

As everyone said there cheaper, some have gotten block for as lil as 300, but its not uncommon to pay alot more, if your not going boost and staying na go for the 6.0,

Supply/demand. That's where the price difference comes from.
My local supplier has 15 4.8/5.3's on the shelf. He has 3 6.0's. This reflected in the price:
4.8/5.3's All you want, dressed, for $600.
6.0 $850, dressed.
None are what one would call "low miles". Most well over 100K.

I dont see the point in going small because once you get the feel of a turbo on a v8 you will ALWAYS want more so might as well spend 200 bucks more to get the 6L

both 6.0 and 5.3 in the stock form can handle the same hp..obviously the 6.0 will make more power with less boost.
but why not go for the cheaper one if your on a budget.

In stock form they will both hold the same power and the 5.3 is half the price and more plentiful. LKQ on ebay has had them for $299. with a warranty...lol.

Wait the 6.0 will hold same power as 5.3? Id rather use bigger motor if thats the case. Can get both real cheap in junkyards with 60k miles range.

I was going 5.3 cause though pistons rod combo was unique for boost. Is there any disadvantage other than the few hundred dollars?
