Recommended, you can definetly run them without it just hurts the efficiency of the system. A lot of guys compensate for the lack of intercooler by running methanol injection or E85.

definitely recommended, almost needed... Mine keeps the iat's 9-15 deg above ambient while crusing. Dont know what the iat's would be without it but If I had to guess Id say somehwere around 50-80 deg above ambient while crusing...

Unless you're running E85 and lower boost I would highly recommend it. The day I brought my car home after the turbo installation it was 92* and my IATs stayed under 100* the entire way home. I would say that if the choice is between this and a methanol system, run the intercooler. No pumps to worry about, no liquid to fill up, no wiring, etc... Meth is great, but I would run it in addition to an intercooler, not in place of one.

The answer is the same as condoms. Depending on what part of the country you are in and how careful you are.

air to air, there is no way you will be cooler than ambient... someones thermometer is off. And even after cruising down the road your IATs will creep after a few pulls.

Ingested ambient air 100° - after blower and through air to air intercooler - 90° - Fail

Unless you have a Nitrous Bar or something to chill your intercooler.

For the OP. Recommended as everyone else mentions, to increase efficiency.

^^^ Ok, I didnt want to bash or call anyone out as it wasnt my car but this makes me feel a little better about my setup. I thought it was impossible to get even ambient temps in the intake with fi and an intercooler alone, but what do I know???
