Default can my cats melt?

I just took my car to the dyno to get it tuned. I have a d1sc that I'm runnning. The exhaust is brp headers 2.5 inch duals and cats. Do I need to gut the cats? Can they melt and plug up the exhaust? Would drilling a hole through the middle be enough to cool down the cat? Like a 1 inch hole? I've never messed with the inside of a cat so I don't really know how it would react to a drill bit. Any thoughts/suggestions? Does the cats need to be completly gutted?

If it's tuned properly there is no reason to do anything with the cats ( other than get rid of them )

They can melt, break off, and shoot out the tailpipe. Eventually you will run into a problem being FI and those cats.

I need to keep the shell for DE inspection. Any thoughts on running a large drill bit through the middle? Possibly keeping some of the material to avoid unburnt fuel?

Just take them out,use an air hammer with a long bit. Go to town hammering the honey comb type material out

with a supercharged car your not suppose to run cats ....i dont run cats on mine and pass inspection fine ...im in mass and they are difficult on passing here as long as its tuned for no cats they are not going to jack up the vehicle and look for them imo

If your worried about etest buy a cheap high flow set and v band them on when etest is needed, then v band straight pipe or a hollow set on the rest of the time. This way it saves the cats for next etest.

So what is the reccomended method for gutting the cats? Could I use a big 2 inch drill bit through the middle? Would the remainder stay in place? Is it attached to the wall?

Do I need to re tune the car after messing with the cats? Will this mess with air/fuel? Change back pressure significantly?

Just repeatedly shove a crow bar through them.

Seriously you are just breaking things.

If you start cutting the cats, they will completely disintigrate in a very short period of time. Think house of cards, you're not going to remove just some of it without compromising the structural integrity of the rest.

ok so it's an all or nothing type of deal. Is there any reason to worry about not getting all of the trash out of the pipe or will it flow through the exhaust and out the back.

I just got the car dyno'd and tuned today, will I need to re-tune after gutting the cats?

Any thoughts on needing another tune after cats are gutted?

Do you have a wideband to see if after gutting the afr's have changed enough for a retune?

I passed DE inspection without cats, as long as the tune
is set up for no cats.
