Standard deck but make sure it's the newest version.

The newest revision of the GM LSX Bowtie block

Main features of this revision are:

-Improved metallurgy that results in upwards of 50% increase in tensile strength throughout the block.

-Reinforced deck with strengthened water passages and bolt holes

-Revised cam oiling passages that allow clocked cam bearings to optimize camshaft oiling in the highest performance applications with huge spring pressures and high loads.

i see u posted the difference in post #5.. Is the new version really worth the extra ~1200 bucks? The guys using the older LSX blocks have issues or alot of extra machine work?

I think that is a misprint .. If you can get the older version for that price I would jump on it...

if that is the price of that block who care if its the old version. unless you are trying to make 3000 hp or something. I am putting together a LSX with a single turbo looking to make around 1700 hp and the old block is plenty strong for that . I am using a hyd street cam any ways. so no need for any of them upgrades on that new block. I picked up a used LSX block with ARP main stud kit already in it for 1400 bucks all it needs a a fresh hone and ill knock a new set of cam bearings in it. wish i saw that add i bet the got a lot of them and cant get rid of them so they haft to sell em off cheep . but my used block will wind up costing me with a hone and cam bearings main studs already in it that's $200 right there.$1650 dollars cant beat that

Whatcha planning to build?
Power level?

LSX iron block is a complete waste of cash unless you want to make 1,200 RWHP and higher. Just get a 6.0 LQ9 and make reliable 1,000 RWHP all day long on boost.

I'm going for 1,000-1,100 with my new 390ci LQ9. Save that LSX money for very good rods and crank.

I just want to build a stout 6 bolt design motor that will handle whatever boost i throw at it and not worry about lifting a head / blwoing a gasket.. I saw SDPS has them for ~2200... Gonna pull the trigger next week prolly and just get it.

The standard deck LSX blocks come a little taller than the spec and require machining to get the deck height proper. Wiseco makes a shelf piston that's roughly .020" taller in the crown, leaving you some added strength and your top ring further away from the flame. You might consider leaving an extra .020 or so in your deck height and taking advantage of such a piston..
