Default 1999 Z28 Huron Speed T7875 Build | Update 8-4-13

My car is a 1999 Z28 M6 that had a Vortech G-Trim on it. Bone stock with injectors, tune, and the blower (3.7” pulley) the car made 393 rwhp and 382 rwtq. I drove the car around like this for a while, but then I wanted more. So I installed some long tubes and a custom 3” magnaflow and it helped but it was still slow. During this time I had been thinking about the Huron Speed single turbo kit…and then Dave (1999Black_Z28) posted up some videos of his car on 6 psi. Just a short time after that the group sale was announced and I placed my deposit as soon as I seen the thread. Within the hour the supercharger went up for sale And to my surprise I sold the supercharger the next day…which meant I had to pull all of the old crap off.

Parts List:
Stock Short Block
Huron Speed Kit
317's
LS9 Head Gaskets
PAC 1218's
Turbonetics TC78 Turbo - Upgraded to T7875
Turbonetics RG 45 Wastegate
Derale 16925 Pusher Fans
Modular Turbo Power Steering Lines
Truck Manifolds
72” 5/8 belt (used with a turn one pump)
LS6 Intake (still needs to be installed)
MightyMouse Catch Can

Before:

Old numbers before full exhaust:

And what I was left with:

Picked these up for $40 bucks.

And how it sits now:

And heres a picture of the oil drain used for the Vortech, hope its low enough for the turbo:

It weird going from a supercharged setup to an n/a setup and then to a turbo setup, but it should be fun. As the car sits now, it has the alternator relocation kit installed, a/c deleted, and Modular Turbo Power Steering lines installed. Fans should be here any day now and those will be wired up as well. Updates will be slow as theres not much left to do at this point but wait for Jon

Wow, already starting good job! Looks like you're progressing pretty good so far. The only thing I think I'm going to different on mine is try to keep the a/c. I know it sounds dumb, but I like my a/c lol. This kit is so much cheaper than any a/c kit and I think I've figured out how to just relocate the alternator and a/c compressor to the top for about $500.

Btw how much power are you looking to make and how much boost are you wanting to push?

Not really sure how much boost I'm going to run (as its irrelevant), I just want to make 550 rwhp through an M6 on E85. I might be kicking myself in the a&^ though in the next month or so. Turbonetics is releasing their new TC7675 (I think thats the name of it) with the bigger turbine.

Very cool!!! I can't wait to follow along as you make progress. With everything you already have done it shouldn't take long once you have the kit

Nice turbo huh? I was when I pulled my turbo out of the box lol. It had me wanting to put it on right than and there. I'm kinda in the same boat as you only instead of pulling off a vortech S/C I just got finished pulling my N20 wet plate kit off the car tonight . I really don't miss n20 to much though. I didn't like how the power wasn't always there.. My only problem I think I'll have power wise with the turbo is trying not to make to much

Sub'd... I gotta finish my motor build, then onto my Huron speed turbo kit. By the time I'm ready, Hopefully the A/C kit will be available for purchase-as it will be yr from now. Good luck with your build, can't wait to see it done.

It is pretty sweet, I wish I had the kit already! The Vortech was alot of fun, super smooth power and the car drove like stock. But after I installed poly motor mounts all the piping started to rub againist the hood. I got tried of cutting on my hood, in one spot I had nothing left to cut! Plus that blower taps out around the high 400 area on the stock motor with bolt ons I have a feeling your going to love the turbo setup! Nitrous is fun but it gets old quick.

Thanks man! The a/c looks super nice but I'm happy with what I bought. When I was pulling the a/c off the car I was sad at first, but once it was off I didn't care. I have a DD

Looking forward to your progress. I'm doing a huron speed/TC78 build on a junkyard 5.3 once we all receive our kits from the group buy.

I've been driving around a while now with the alternator relocation kit installed and I've been having some issues. I bought a laser alignment tool to check my pulleys and everything looked good.

So I tried the ribbed pulley and the results were the same.

In this picture you can see how the tensioner is off.

Jon is sending me a new set of brackets which hopefully fixes the issue.

Also if anyone needs to rent my laser alignment tool, it will be $25 + $50 deposit for a week rental. Here's a picture of it.

We will get it squared away for you Ray!
