Angry help all procharged fbodys !! belt slip n low power

Ok I have a procharged SS ..... When I bought the car it had a 3.4" pulley said to be making 8.lbs of boost. When I got it it only made 4-5 boost at a elevation of 3800ft so I know that's the loss in boost. I bought a custom over sized 7.25 crank pulley and installed it and now it slips at about 6 down to 5lbs. You can hear it very load. So my question is what can I do without upgrading to 8rib setup. I saw someone add custom idler tensioner to j bracket which looks like a good idea ...is there anyother ideas ?? Really need help ! Don't feel like I'm making the power a procharged LS1 should !

Once you start slipping a belt, it's done. Slipping causes heat, and heating rubber causes it to vulcanize (harden) and now it grips even less.

If you're set on staying with a six rib, you need to figure out how to get more belt wrap, and then start with a new belt, but break it in properly. The belt will stretch initially, but you won't be able to put full tension on it up front.

So put the belt on, and keep the rpms low, then re-tighten the belt. Do this again a few more times till you don't see the belt stretching any more. Now you can try to go higher rpms and wot and hope you don't get any more belt slip.

With a 3.4" pulley, you're fighting an uphill battle due to the smaller size and less belt wrap. Go with a bigger head unit pulley, and a bigger crank pulley to try and get more boost.

What he said ^^^ if your keeping the 6 rib.... But I'm going to say save up and go to a 8 rib setup with the 'ASTER" or "SDCE" J-Bracket. I went with the 8 rib with the SDCE tensioner from the start and have never had belt slip.

I finally got the belt to tighten super tight didn't realize to use the bolt on the top to tighten to tensioner ....that was my whole problem (idiot I know) so I just saw 9 psi on a quick second gear pull so I'm thinkin it could get up to10 psi. That sounds alot better since I have 7.25 crank and 3.4 head unit. I'm super happy to get the boost back my only concern is what now ? Can I just run it like this or is there tuning I need? .. air to fuel ratio etc ?

I'd have the tune looked at, which is much cheaper than rebuilding the engine. If you're running the ProCharger supplied air filter, you might want to try a larger filter as I have seen good gains with larger filters when boosting 10+ psi. The filter here fits with the twin intercoolers. http://shop.brutespeed.com/ATI-AF056...AF056I-009.htm Bob

I have used a bigger one ... A cheap brand tho, maybe gonna get another K&N filter but if its larger it starts to protrude to the tire ... At 10 psi is there any large mods I would need ? ... I would be happy at 8 psi ... When I bought the car it was said to be dynoed at 480hp at 8lbs but like I said ontop I didn't see 8lbs and I really didn't feel it to be at 480hp so now idk where I would be at.

I did the below mod and ran 10 lbs without any issues. Its cheap compared to the alternative.

If u saw 9 lbs of boost and the car was only suppose to be tuned for 8lbs I would deff get the tune checked! I went down that road with upgrading to the bigger filter on my inlet. My car was tuned at 9lbs. Put the bigger filter on and boosted to 91/2-10 and boom went the #7 piston. Don't take the chance in my opinion !

On a stock motor my 8-rib kit made 9.5 psi on 4.25"/7.25" blower/crank pulleys and Bob's big filter. I don't think you'll drop boost going to a 4" pulley and your belts will last much longer.

Yeah Ima change to the 4" maybe get around 8 psi .... All my other friends got 5.0s and Cobras so I got to stay on top lol ....even at 8 psi I don't feel like the car is making 480hp like it was said to be dynoed at before I got it. :/ but I do beat 5.0s and all so who knows
