Default Vacuum manifold & Catch can (Help)

whats the point of the catch can and do you need one or is it just a good idea to have one? I would assume that it goes before the block?? kinda new to this and wanna get this right

catch can "catches" oil from the PCV system so it doesnt re-enter to the intake.

this is a tubo setup, LS1 valley cover, dual catch can set up. keeps the intake clean, as well as your tubo/supercharger, and intercooler plumbing.
