spooling a 110mm turbine wheel, will it work?
Ok so here's the deal. I found a turbo for a really good price and the reason he is selling it got cheap is because he doesn't know much about it. He only knows that the comp wheel is 88mm and the turbine wheel is 110mm. It's a large frame t6 turbo but i don't know what the exhaust ar is or if it's a divided housing or not. If it's a divided housing, i might be able to spool it with a quick spool valve and maybe a 50 shot if needed. if it's undivided i won't even bother trying to make it work. its going to be driven alot on the street and raced at the track a handful next summer
heres the only pic of the turbo
heres a list of my setup
96 s10
Stock short Block lq4
Tu2 cam
Ported 317's
Lpe 2 step
Ptc converter
Th400 w/ Trans brake
3.27 gear
3300ish lbs
I have the rest of the motor built with better stuff also but it's irrelevant to spooling the turbo. Im only wanting to make anywhere between 700-900 whp for now but In the future probably build a 400ish cube motor out of this lq4 which is why I'm considering buying this turbo. I know this turbo isnt the best choice for an lq4 but i wanted to see if its even worth buying so i wont have to upgrade in the future.

Looks like a TV81xx.
Yes you can spool it.... there are better cam choices. The TU2 has too much overlap and not enough EVO to really make that turbine work like you need it to.
More information about the turbo would be helpful.

Yeah i was thinking it could be a borg but it's really hats to tell with only 1 pic. Once i get more pictures tomorrow I'll post them up. Liljohn, can you please explain what evo is? Sorry i don't know much about cams. So if i did sell my tu2 cam and got another cam spec'd to spool this turbo, would that cam also work well in a 408 or something of that nature?

Borg S500's dont have 10 blade compressor wheels.
Dimensions are similar to the S500/Gt55... its just an older designed wheel. It can be a pretty powerful unit.
Evo is exhaust valve open. To spool that turbo on 364 inches its gonna have to be aggressive... it would be more at home and easier to make work on a 400+ inch motor.
Its a 4 digit hp capable unit... if you can make it work.

It sounds like it's going to be a max effort 364 to get this thing to spool. And even if it does spool on the brake it might not even be that fun playing around on the street. It's only $250 and that's a hard deal to pass up. I would probably be better off doing a s480 and swapping comp housings in the future if needed. Tough decisions.

What would a cam need to like to run an 88/111mm turbo? Reverse split? obviously CI and heads will play part in that, im just tryin to get an idea.

if you dont get a different cam, advance this one 3-5*. advance the ignition timing a bunch and lean it out before 5-6psi. Running e85 will also help spool time due to the greater exhaust volume and allow you to advance the timing much more.
also you could run non-intercooled...
