Default 02 Turbo Camaro Exhaust Question

I just purchased a 2002 T76 Camaro. The car doesn't have a catalytic converter and I need one for inspection.
My question is, can I just weld a cat right into the pipe without any issues. I realize this may be a dumb question, but I've never had to do so before so I was just checking.

What kind of exhaust is currently on there. I'm assuming something custom. But what diameter pipe and were does it dump?

How are cats validated? I'm assuming by visual inspection and not something like operating temperatures. Have you considered using a cat shell? If you HAVE to I would use an ultra high flow cat and weld it. Somewhere in the stock location.

The exhaust is routed just as a normal exhaust is. Routed under the driver side next to the transmission, single (I think 3") pipe into a hooker catback.

I think you can use a high flow cat too.

Just pop an electric cutout on it along with the cat. Close it when its time for inspection. Turbo cars , especially, love to breathe.

I would honestly look for someone that is a inspector and can right one for you on the side, its illegal! but Some people will do it for some side money lol option 2 would be what "I8UR4RD" said.

I would add a cat if they do a visual inspection and also add the cutout. Not an expert but a single three inch sounds like a little restrictive. You might see some noticeable gains. At the very least it will sound better. Ultra-high flow cat is an option, a little pricey but if you plan on running it and have to have a cat that is the route I would go. They "inpect" for cats here in AZ but they don't do a visual inspection. They rely on the SES light to let you know the cat isn't there or not functioning correctly.

Car passed inspection. I have a cutout on the car already. Don't really know my options beyond the 3" single exhaust for now I'll just open the cutout every once and a while. Its manual so its a pita to mess with.
